It was the sarcasm that struck me as rude. Unless you really plan to name your sons Jackhammer and Doorknob in order to save them the shame of sharing a name with a girl.

I'm not trying to start a fight, really. I just think that it's possible to state an opinion firmly and clearly without antagonizing.

To steer this back on topic, here are some of the

I completely disagree that giving a boy name indicates you wanted a boy. I HAVE three boys and every time we've discussed names for girls that we like, some of which can go either way (like Ryan or Spencer). Now, I wouldn't name my daughter James, but if someone wants to do that it's their choice. I've seen some things suggested on these boards that IMO would be worse, they aren't even names to me. But you're still allowed to name your child what you want. I mean, if you want to name your child Red does that mean you really wanted a redheaded child? Look over some of the polls, there are all kinds of likes/dislikes. To me, it just means you like something that's different from what others like. It doesn't necessarily lead me to believe there's a "hidden message" in what I wish my child had been. Maybe I just wish my child to be named Ryan or Spencer.

Yes, I totally agree. In my case, I actually have a preference for a girl. Yet if I have a daughter, it's quite possible that she will end up with a unisex or boys name. Not because I think those names will somehow make her strong and definitely not because I wanted a boy, but simply because I like those names.
