Brother/Sister for Sebastian

Dh and I are expecting #2 (a suprise), We find the naming part so incredibly difficult it would be great to have some input!

Ds is 2, we mostly shorten Sebastian to "Seb"

If it's a girl I like Alexandra (probably shorten to Alex) and Mahalia (Marli or Arli maybe for short)

For a boy, Noah, or Dh loves Oscar but since our ln is Skinner I think it's too many 'sk' sounds.

other names that have my attention:

Zoe
Sophie
Xavier
Henry

Congrats on #2! I think that the nn Seb is wonderul.

Seb and Alex work well together, but I just dislike how popular "Alex" names are these days. Mahalia is ok, but it is almost too different. Zoe and Sophie are also too common.

What about:
Marina, nn Marnie
Camilla, nn Millie
Marielle, nn Marley
Arcelia, nn Ari/Celia/Lia
Cecilia, nn Celia/Lia

Seb and Noah don't really go well together, but Seb and Xavier sound great! I also like Sebastian and Alexander/Seb and Xander.

Good luck,
Brooke

I think Alexandra sounds nice with Sebastian and offers lots of nickname possibilities (Alex, Alexa, Lexi etc.) I like Zoe too but it just seems SO short compared to Sebastian. Out of your boy choices I like Xavier, it has the same strong and unique sound as Sebastian. I like Oscar too but I don't think it sounds that good with your ln.

Eleanor (nn Nora or Ella)
Teresa (nn Tessa)

Oh, I like your name choices. I think Zoe is my favorite of the girl names, and I just love Henry!!! I agree with you on Oscar...I think it would be too much sk...unless you love the name...then, of course, use it.:) Lotsa luck!!!

Congrats on your second little baby! Sebastian is such a cute name!

Alexandra is cute. There are so many cute nn out of Alexandra - Alex, Lexie, Alexa, Ally, Andie, Lex

Zoe - not my style of name at all

Sophie - Love this name. I like this one more than Alexandra but I like the nn out Alexandra better

Noah - LOVE Noah and I think that it is perfect with Seb

Xavier - I just can not get into this name

Henry - I like Henry a lto but I like Noah better.

Congratulations on #2!

Of the boys names you're considering, I liked Henry best. It seemed the most classic of the bunch and it's not trendy at all, but stylistically it'll fit with and complement Sebastian.

Of your girls I liked Sophie and Alexandra. Sophie's fine as is, but for Alexandra I'm biased against the nn Alex. I like the nns Lexie, Sandy and Xandra/Sandra.

Good luck!

I'd just really like to let you all know your input has been such a help! Wow!

I wouldn't have thought of Alexander/Xander and I quite like that, I like Ezekiel/Zeke, and some of the other suggested nn's for Alexandra... Actually all your thoughts have given me something to work on it's great

I'm excited now! It will be interesting now too see what we get- boy or girl. At least I seem to have plenty of options, With bub #1 we had nothing until right before the birth!

I wish you all the best with your own baby's names :)

Congrats on #2. ;)

On a sidenote, I have to say, I thought your comment about finding a name being "so incredibly difficult" was funny -- Sebastian is SO well-named! Love it.

Alexandra/Alex -- the Alex- names are a huge trend at the moment, so this would be much too common next to Sebastian for me.
Mahalia -- I could see this. You could also use Mia, Lia, Molly/Mahli or Holly/Halle/Hali (spelling from the name or not) as a shortened form.
Zoe -- I could see this with Sebastian. You may also like Daphne, Chloe, Phoebe or Xanthe
Sophie -- too similar to Sebastian for me. I'd avoid another S.

Noah -- Much too common/popular next to Sebastian. It's being used by everyone, but especially popular in religious circles (nearly every little boy under two at my mom's church was named Noah!). I think it's rising on the coat-tails another popular Biblical name -- Jacob (number one for nearly a decade). People want a less-popular option, and Noah's it ... meaning it'll be equally popular soon (already seems so in some areas). ;)
Oscar -- I agree. This would be too much "sk" with your ln. Have you considered Oliver? Very similar sound and feel without the "sk" sound, and Sebastian and Oliver go wonderfully together.
Xavier -- that works. ;)
Henry -- also popular in certain circles (it makes a perfect brother name to many of the revived classics ), but not nearly up to Alex- or Noah proportions. As of last year, it wasn't quite in the top 100, so it seems a good match with Sebastian (at 86 in 2005).

I think Mahalia would be awesome as a sibling for Sebastian

it's a name you've heard, yet different because you rarely hear it

I like Noah -and it does match up with with Sebastian - I do not like Oscar under any circumstances - I identify it with the Sesame St character or with Oscar from the Odd Couple, but even aside from that it isn't a nice sounding name

I also like Zoe a lot, would be an OK match with Sebastian, the styles are a bit different

I'm not a big fan of Xavier, wouldn't say I DISlike it - and I do agree it'd be a pretty good match with Sebastian

Sophie is OK as a nn - if you're going to use it - go with Sophia as the formal name though

that's a good list except for Oscar and Henry (which I just see as way "old")

good luck

Hi!
I have to say I LOVE the name Sebastian, it seems so perfect. I think it goes very well with Alexandra or Alexander, yes I know people say it is popular, but there are so many nickname possibilities that you could definitley make it your own. I personally think Sasha is a very cool nickname for Alexandra or Alexander.
I am sure you will find the perfect name and CONRATULATIONS on your pregnancy!
