I need some help, we have 10 more weeks to decide on this little guys name.
We have three kids,
Austin (13) Taylor (10) McKinley (2) and a little boy due March 2nd.
We love the fact that our youngest DD has a somewhat unique name but also that it has significance. My husband plays guitar and it is the blues guitarist Muddy Waters real name, McKinley Morganfield.
Anyway, we kinda wanted to find a special name this time, not just one that sounded nice, kwim?
We really like Ryan, but very popular and no significance.
We have come across two options that have a musical background and would like your opinion.
Cale David ________
Riley David__________
I like Cale because it is different but do you think it is too different? Is Riley too similar sounding to McKinley?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I like both Cale and Riley, but they have very different feels to me, if that helps. Most people won't be familiar with Cale, but it's still simple and easy to spell/pronounce. Riley, on the other hand, is very trendy and popular (for both sexes, although I'm assuming that's not a concern) and doesn't have one straightforward spelling (although I believe Riley is the most common, so good choice there LOL). Do you think you'd prefer a more unique name or one you'd hear more often?
I usually lean toward the less common choice myself, and I do try to avoid sibling names that begin or end the same (which is what I'm assuming you were referring to with Riley and McKinley), so Cale would get my vote out of those two choices.
If you're open to other suggestions, Griffin was my first thought for you. It seems to fit well with your other children's names and I believe is a brand of guitar (my brother also plays LOL). Morgan would also be great, if you don't mind honoring the same person twice. ;)
Other ideas:
Davis
Hendrix
Van (could use as a nn for Ivan, Donovan, Vance, etc.)
Patton

Cale is not "too different" at all. Parents are using tons of weird names nowadays, making Cale seem completely normal. It isn't popular, which a huge plus, but it is known. I love it, it has such a strong feel.
Riley is okay, and I do prefer it for boys, but it IS more popular for girls.

I don't like Cale b/c "kale" is a vegetable- it's a form of cabbage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kale
Riley is okay, but is being used for girls a lot as well, so you might want to take into consideration whether you want to use a name that is becoming unisex...

Cale could be mistaken with Kale, and you don't want people thinking you named him after a leafy vegetable...
I'd go Riley.

I like Cale better than Riley but honestly - Cale makes me think of lettuce, not music. I think Riley is used for both boys and girls and I would worry it will go over to the girls side in the years to come. Good luck!
