I am due THIS WEDNESDAY and we still don't have a name for our girl! DH and I are going back and forth, but really don't have one we love yet. *I* love Fiona, but DH isn't sure...I really want some honest opinions on this one. Will she be made fun of? Is it too stereotyped? Do you think green when you hear it? :) Thanks so much!

The first thing I think when I hear (or see) Fiona is "Brigadoon" not "Shrek". It seems a very elegant name to me. The potential for Shrek comments is there, especially if there's a third or fourth Shrek movie. But Princess Fiona's not a bad character. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Good Luck!

I agree. I think it's a beautiful (and not overly-used) name. And sure, you'll probably encounter a few Shrek comments, but I'm sure most of them won't be bad. She is a princess in it, after all. :)

If it helps, I think the popularity of Jasmine actually went way up after Aladdin came out (and I doubt if all those girls constantly hear genie jokes).

I wouldn't worry about it.

Fiona is a beautiful name!

I wanted to consider is but it is our 3 year old nieces name. There are the very few people who ask if she is named after Shrek, but people compliment it a lot. Good Luck

Fiona is a wonderful, very classy name. By the time your little girl is old enough, Shrek will SOOO be a thing of the past, and the timeless name will remain. I think it would be just fine.

I love Fiona! It's so pretty. I know one Fiona - a seven-year-old in our n'hood. Also, it is Julia Roberts' middle name!

While it is not really a name I would ever use, I do think it is very lovely. And no it does not make me think green! ;)

Hmmm...I think Fiona is okay...go with it if you love it.

I do think of Shrek right off...but that is cause it is current and that will fade...I wouldn't think it to be a huge issue.

Shaun, Chase, Bryce and baby girl

Fiona kind of sound like a lot of syllables next to them though...

If you want Celtic...I like Moira with the boys names.

I also think Clara would be very pretty and feminine next to the boys names.

Good luck!!!

Hey! This is actually the first time ive come across this board and was lurking around and decided to respond to your post:o) I actually love the name fiona. I liked it whenever Fiona Apple first came out(the singer from a few years ago). Me and hubby are currently i the process of TTC#2 and of course weve been joking if we get pregnant witha girl or boy we will name then this. Fiona is actually one of the names we picked out.I like Fiona Chystelle(might be a little bit much for some people) but it hink its fits well together:o) I didnt even think about shrek when i seen the post so iw ouldnt have any worries.
