Can you give me some suggestions?

I need some help, I am stuck with no names right now. We like names that are interesting (for example, William is a little too traditional for us) but not too strange/different. I also don't want my kid to have the same name as 8 other people in his/her class. Our last name is Clark, so anything that ends in a 'c' or 'k' sounds funny. Also my husband and I both have first names that start with 'C', and giving the kid a 'C' name is just too cutesy for me.
Soooo...given this extreme pickiness that I have, do you have any suggestions for me? The only girl's name I liked was Ava, but apparently so did everyone else last year. We kinda like Gavin for a boy, but is that too strong a name for a baby/child? I read and reread lists, but nothing seems just right.
Thanks for sharing your ideas, I feel so indecisive!

I'm not good at coming up with lists of ideas (don't worry - - lots of people on this board are very good at that, and I'm sure you'll get many great suggestions) - - but I did want to weigh in on "Gavin."
I know two Gavins. One is a toddler, and the other is grown. Two more different people would be hard to imagine - - other than the age difference, one is blond and the other very dark-haired, one is outgoing and the other is introverted. But somehow this name works for both of them. It has never seemed too mature for the younger, but it works great for an adult, too.
All in all, I think it's a great name, and I would not hesitate to use it if you like it. Good luck!
