can't decide on a girl name
| Thu, 10-12-2006 - 5:36pm |
We've finally decided on a boys names but can't come up with the perfect girls name yet.
If it's a boy we've decided on Tristan Reid or Tiernan James (James is my Dad and Dh's mn). Other sibs are Darian, Ashton and Kaitlyn.
Here are some of the girl names that we like but not sure if any are the one KWIM
Ceridwen (really like it but not sure if it's too out there)
Alea
Rayna
Alessa
Anwen
I don't have to keep the all ending with an N since
it wasn't actually planned that way just kind of happened.
Any ideas on names that would go with other sibs?
What you think of the few I have left on my list?
Keep thinking I'm going to have the baby before I
decide on a name and since have
boys names ready it would of course be a girl lol
TIA
Robin

Hello and congratulations.
With Darian, Ashton, and Kaitlyn,
I like Rayna best.
I also like Jemma/Gemma (a twist on James)!
At this point, I might be tempted to keep the -n ending even though it wasn't planned. You don't want to leave this baby out...
Darian, Ashton, and Kaitlyn-
Rhiannon
Marin
Bellan
Brinn/Brynn
Laken
Maegan
Ragan/Reagan/Regan
Teryn/Tarin
Teagan
Let us know!

I like both boy names you've picked, btw. ;)
My thoughts on your girl names with sibs Darian, Ashton and Kaitlyn:
Ceridwen -- I like it, but it's a little close to Kaitlyn for me (since it begins and ends with the same sound). I'd probably avoid using another K/C, A or D unless you absolutely loved it, KWIM?
Alea -- this doesn't seem the same style as your other children, besides being another A
Rayna -- also has a very different feel to me
Alessa -- ditto (LOL sorry)
Anwen -- love it ... but it also begins and ends the same as Ashton, so I wouldn't use it
Some more N-ending suggestions:
Rhianwen
Rhedyn
Branwen
Morrigan
Gwendolen
Imogen
Isleen/Islene
Farren
Fallon
Larkin
Teagan
Eveline
Non-N suggestions:
Myfanwy
Sorcha
Moira
Lasrina
Eleri
Niamh
Richael
Isla
Mairona
Lorna
Gwennor/Gwenora
Grainne/Grania
Savarra
HTH
~Kelli
Ps. Just noticed our kids have the same initials ... my girls are Kaitlyn, Devanie and Abigail. ;)

I think that I would continue with the ending "n" tradition so your fourth child doesn't feel left out.
My thoughts on the names you listed that end in "n":
Ceridwen -- not my style, and the "dw" sound in the middle interrupts the flow, in my opinion
Anwen -- I prefer Arwen, which I like a lot
Also...
Megan
Ashlin (Aisling in Gaelic)
Morgan
Carolyn
Lauren
Another poster mentioned Laken, which is a name I really don't like, but seems to be popular on this board.
FYI, although Tristan is traditionally a boys' name, I now know two girls with this name, so if that would bother you, you might want to move Tiernan into the first spot.
When I saw your list I instantly thought of Eddowyn/Eddowynn (nn Wyn/Wynn?) I don't know any details about the name but when I used to make sigs I made one for a lady whose little girl had this name and I loved it. Pretty similar in sound to Ceridwen.
With Darion, Ashton, & Kaitlyn, you could also consider:
Arlen
Maeve ("Dave" with an M)
Corinne
Chainey
Harper
Stella
Maren
Calla
Rhea
Thoughts:
Ceridwen- hmm... I think this is nice and has great nn choices. It would grow on me I'm sure.
Alea- Is this pronounced the same as Aaliyah? h, the name seems trendy/made up to me, even though I know its not. It just has that feel to it, nms. Prefer Lia/Leah or Marley
Rayna- i knew a girl who had this name (spelt Reina). Its nice and different
Alessa- Okay. I prefer Alyssa
Anwen- Pretty. Like this a lot
Congrats!
Here are my thoughts on your list:
Ceridwen - yeah, I think it's a little "out there" next to your other names
Alea - OK, but kinda hard to say
Rayna - My favorite!
Have you considered Bronwyn. It has a Celtic feel like your other names, and also has the "N" ending. I've always loved this name. let us all know what you decide.
Jennie
Ceridwen is pretty far out there - strange sounding
I love Rayna
good luck
Great Names!
I think Larkin, Addison, & Carson are all pretty cute.
To add to your boy names, what about Keegan?
Happy Naming!

selena

or

good luck-hth!
