What do you think of Channing for a boy? I don't really like Chandler. I did come across Channer. Thoughts, suggestions? We are looking for a name that begins with CHA.

hmm...interesting! I like it - it has a western feel to me and it fits with the surname trend.

I'd be afraid to use it, I think. I've met 3 Channings in my lifetime, and they've all been female.

Channer sounds more exclusively masculine to me. It might often be confused with Tanner, though, which could get old after a while. I also like Chance, Chase, Chantrey, and Charles.

I love the name Channing. I first heard it on a soap opera about 18 years ago. The character's name was Channing Creighton. I had big plans for years to name my first son Channing Creighton. By the time I started having babies I had completely forgotten about the name. My third boy is named Chandler, but I would've named him Channing had I remembered the name. Chandler is so close to Channing, which is probably why I liked it so much.

I don't really like the way Channing looks in writing, though.

Hi! For many years I always said "If I have a girl I want to name her channing" but I am having a boy so maybe I will get to use it next time. I would not recommend it for a boy because it is too femine sounding. The only name I can think of for a boy that starts with a cha is chard and chance. I went to school with two boys with these names. I like chance but my hubby doesn't like it. I threw the name out there and he vetod (?) it right away. Good luck though on your decision because I am having a hard time deciding on a name too. I think we finally narrowed it down to three names though and hopefully we will decided soon because he is debuting next month. Happy New Year and big hugs. Bye

I just think of Carol Channing (the one with the very recognized, very annoying voice). Seems like a name that would only be used if it were a family surname.

I love Channing! It is different, but doesn't have a made up feel to it. I find it very strong.

The only Channing I've ever known was a man, so I don't find it feminine at all. I really like it!

I've got to say I agree with Kelli. My first reaction was Carol Channing, so I wouldn't use it, especially on a boy. Maybe if it were a family name in YOUR family, but otherwise, find something else.

BTW, have you considered looking through your own family tree? You and your husband might find something interesting that also has meaning for you if you trace the surnames in your own family.

It's not a trendy name, but you could go with Chad. It's got the Cha without the risk of going out on a limb. I tend to prefer classic names anyway.
