Is Christian too Feminine?

As most of you know, I have loved the name Christian Scott for quite a long time now. DH agreed to it as well so I figured we were all set as far as a boy's name goes. However, I asked some friends their opinions recently and although they liked the name, they thought it was kind of feminine...or at the very least not masculine. Now I'm second guessing our decision to use it. I am still in love with it, but I don't want to tramautize my son with a "feminine" name. Of course, he could always go by Chris, but I have every intention of calling him Christian most of the time. What are your thoughts on this name? Am I overreacting or do we need to begin the long and arduous search for another "perfect" boy's name?

I'm very surprised to hear that *anyone* thinks of Christian as feminine in any way - it's not even unisex, like Reese or Emerson; it's masculine, like John or David. At least, that's how it seems to me.

I never really understood that reaction. Christian isn't feminine in the least. Heck, I've never even personally heard it USED on a girl IRL, though I'm sure I've seen it online once or twice ... but then I've also seen Michael, Kyle, Ryan and Nolan used for girls, and that doesn't necessarily speak to the masculinity (or lack thereof) of the names themselves, KWIM?

To use a similar name as an example, I sort of get how some would view Tristan as a more feminine male name, simply based on the fact that many are unfamiliar with it and try to relate it to a name they DO know -- the female "Kristen." Understandable (though I LOVE Tristan myself ).

Christian, on the other hand, isn't uncommon in the least. It's a known name that isn't even considered unisex by most, so I just don't get that. ;)

Hope my babbling helps. LOL

When I here the name Christian, I immediately think of a boy. I don't know any Christian girls. I don't believe that it sounds feminine in the slightest bit. I say go for it!

Hi

To let you know, one of my oldest brothers is named Christian A. C. and goes by Chris. He is a capable young man in college and has a job of his own.

It's a great name which is rarely used in nowadays. Go for it if you really do love it.

I agree with the previous posters: Christian is not a feminine name at all! I knew a Christian in high school and let me tell you, he was NOT feminine in any way and the girls went nuts over him. Maybe that's why I think of it as a more masculine name than your friends do. But -- it doesn't matter what your friends think. You and DH agree on it and are in love with the name so it sounds like you have the name you're looking for!! I always tell myself I will not reveal the names I want for my future kids to any family members or friends until the baby is born. Then they can't say anything to sway my decision. ;)

No I don't think Christian is too feminine. Actually Prince Christian from Denmark is almost two years old. He is second in line to the Danish crown. His parents are Prince Frederick and Princess Mary (who was born in Hobart Tasmania Australia). His parents met in Sydney during the 2000 Olympic Games. They were married in 2004 in Denmark and Prince Christian was named after his Great Great Grandfather.

I don't find the name Christian to be feminine in the least. I have met a fair number of girls names Kristen/Kristin/other variations, but Christian still seems very masculine to me. I say definitely use it if you love it, especially paired with Scott which is an uber masculine name, imo.

I have to agree with your friends, in a way. It has a soft feel, but I wouldn't call it feminine because I could never see the name on a girl.

So should I be concerned that the name Christian is more on the soft side even though it's not feminine? I just want to make sure I'm not scarring my son. LOL
