Is Christian too Feminine?

As most of you know, I have loved the name Christian Scott for quite a long time now. DH agreed to it as well so I figured we were all set as far as a boy's name goes. However, I asked some friends their opinions recently and although they liked the name, they thought it was kind of feminine...or at the very least not masculine. Now I'm second guessing our decision to use it. I am still in love with it, but I don't want to tramautize my son with a "feminine" name. Of course, he could always go by Chris, but I have every intention of calling him Christian most of the time. What are your thoughts on this name? Am I overreacting or do we need to begin the long and arduous search for another "perfect" boy's name?

"So should I be concerned that the name Christian is more on the soft side..."

NO! The soft sound of it is exactly what I was trying to express in my post to you earlier. It IS soft but it is NOT feminine. I have 4 boys & 3/4 have "soft" names - Jason, Matthew, Ryan. None of them have the "hard" consonant sounds but that doesn't make them feminine or make them bad boy names. In fact, the one w/ harder sounds - Christopher - is the one I wished we'd have named Christian!

Christian is a great boy name, & you've gotten so many posts to that effect that you really shouldn't worry.

You shouldn't be at all concerned that it's "on the softer side." (I do agree with this, though I don't think of it as femininity.) Basically, I think it's probably being directly compared in your friends' minds with Christopher, which is, arguably, more masculine because it has a series of hard consonant sounds, while Christian flows through a series of vowels and soft consonants.

With all the little Rileys and Taylors and Quinns out there who have an equal chance of being boys or girls, an exclusively male name which just isn't uber-butch (a la Christopher or Thomas, Gage or Colt) isn't going to bother your son in the slightest. It's a great name, and I don't think this issue should concern you at all.

No, I wouldn't be concerned.
