What do you think of speling Claire with a K . For some reason I just don't care for the letter "C" ... eventhough our last name begins with a "C". Would it sound better w/ the "C" since this is the case. My SIL says a first and last name that begins with the sound of the same letter is "too much" ???? Have you even know a "K" used for Klaire?

Hi there,
I am usually a lurker, but I couldn't help responding to this one. I have no huge problem with Klaire. However, if it were me, I would spell it Klare. This is my own bias because there is a girl who lives down the street named Klarissa, buy she goes by Klare most of the time. The choice is really yours.

Good luck!

I had to respond to this one because my little girl's name is Claire. I personally have the opposite feeling about K vs C, so I picked a C name. If you prefer K names then my opinion is don't change a perfectly good name, pick a name that already starts with a K. Kate is a beautiful name and might be another idea for you.
As to whether a first and last name with the same leter is "too much," well that's up to you to decide. It doesn't actually SOUND any different if you spell it with a K, so it won't really matter when you are saying it out loud it will still SOUND like the first and last name start with the same letter.
If you really love Claire (and I can't blame you if you do ;) ) then I would recommend you spell it the traditional way. If you are dead-set against a C name, then there are many to choose from on that list!
Good luck.

I prefer traditional spellings. I'd stick with "C".

I think that spelling Claire with a K would only cause trouble and confusion for her. She'd forever be saying, "it's Claire, with a K" when people are writing her name. My maiden name was one that I always had to spell and it was so annoying. Claire is a lovely, classy name, but Klaire is not those things to me.

I personally usually don't like the sound of a fn and ln starting w/ the same letter or sound, but it does depend on the overall flow of both names. So, it kind of depends on what your ln is.

My brother has a friend, Klair; my sister plans on naming her first girl Klare. I think it is perfectly fine to use a 'K', and it sounds fine with a last name starting with a 'C'.
Good luck,

Personally, I would never spell Claire with a K. I would rather choose a different name, altogether, than spell Claire with a K. I am OK with Klara, though, because in my other language, Klara is the correct spelling, so it looks fine to me. So overall, I would go with either Claire or Klara.

I agree. IMO, spelling Claire with a "K" looks very made up and it takes away from the beauty of the name. Whether or not you choose the C or K, it still has the same sound that goes with your last name that starts with a C.

There are so many names out there that already begin with K. Claire is such a simple name and your daughter will wind up spelling it out for the rest of her life. If she's going to spell it out for most people, she might as well have a really unique name.

But, if you like the way it's spelled with a K (and are not doing it just because you don't care for the letter C), then spell it that way! :)

Well Thank you Tracy and fifhya for being understanding and giving a simple opinion on whether or not you liked the idea of the spelling that I was considering. I wanted opinions on whether or not you liked the spelling. Of course I knew I would get responses against the speling. Although, telling me I was totally destroying a beautiful name and ick was a bit much. Thanks anyway.
