"colour" names

I find that I am really loving "colour" names lately:
Girls:
Scarlett
Ruby
Amber
Violet
Jade
Even for boys, I have found one that I love- Gray! Of course I wouldn't use more than one of these for a sibset, I doubt I would even use any, but they just seem so spunky to me. Does anyone know of any other "colour" names. If anyone is looking for a nice way to spunk up a first name, I think using one of these as a mn is awesome!

I know many names that refer to a colour in their meaning, but assuming that isn't what you mean, let me think. I've known a woman named Teal, and a play character (male), Auburn. The names you listed include three that are also jewel names, and one flower, and I think many others in these categories evoke colours as well: Amethyst (I know an Amithyst), Emerald (Emeraud, Esmeralda), Sapphira, Pearl, Amber, Beryl, Ivory, Ebony, Olive (Olivia, Oliver), Hazel, Lilac, Rose, Hyacinth (Jacinda), Sage, etc. I've seen Indigo used, usually as a middle name. Bianca/Blanca/Blanche would be among those that translate to a colour, but I think their meaning of 'white' is well enough known that they can be considered with other colour names.

Azure for a girl

I know a boy named Bronzeson - but I wouldn't recommend using it.

I named my little girl Charlotte Gray 2 years ago (Gray is a fammily surname) and I have never regretted it. To me, it is so much more distinctive than say, Charlotte Grace (and I like Grace!).

It's funny, but I never think of my name as being a "colour" name. I am an Amber. and it wasn't picked because of the color, but because both of my parents liked it and it wasn't Jenny, I am a 1980 baby and Jenny was the way to go and my mom is not a fan of the name. I do however collect amber jewerly now. It is an on going joke about me marrying a man with a color last name making me Amber Green, Amber Brown, Amber White...etc. Amber Fields also a popular one.

But I love Ruby as a mn.

Amber :)

What a GREAT post. I completely agree with colour names. We decided months ago that we would name our baby Ruby if she is in fact a she. I love the name Redd (although my husband says it reminds him of a dodgy bar in Edmonton). Just love it. I think colours hold a lot of meaning especially during pregnancy. And Red has been my colour which is why I have been leaning towards Ruby, Scarlett, etc. Just have to convince the hubbie!

Thanks for such a great post.

I knew someone who named their daughter Teal. Not my taste. I don't think I've seen anyone below mention Silver
