Could this work for a girl.

We have a family name that is usually used for a boy but I think it's cuter for a girl. What do you think of Perry for a girl? It's not used very much by either gender so I'm not sure it really matters. I usually don't like unisex names but this is kinda cute. I think for a mn it would take something less traditional but what do you think.

Perry Kendall
Perry Ellison
Perry Addison
Perry Mikelle
Perry Harper
Perry Emersyn
Perry Elyce
Perry Mckinley
Perry Gracyn
Perry Chandler
Perry Michelle
Perry Dawn - maybe not. Sounds kinda like Prairie dog. WDYT

I could go on and on. What do you think. I think it's so cute but I want your opinion. You can be honest, but gentle!!!! Thanks

I think it's a nice name for a girl. I really like the way Perry Mikelle/Makelle sounds. Perry is my aunt and uncle's last name.

I think you could get away with it, cause as you say, its not used often for either gender. I actually think that one of the ladies on "Frasier" is named Perry (maybe Gilpin or somthing like that?) I think you would want to pair it will a feminine sounding middle name though. The mn's of Chandler, Mikelle, Ellison, Gracyn (Grayson?) and a few others sound more like a boys name to me, and may cause confusion, but I could be wrong. My favorite from your list would be Perry Elyce (like Elise?), I think that sounds great, like a cute little girl!

And I agree with you about Perry Dawn--sounds too much like "Praire Dawn" from Sesame Street!)

I have only know Italian men and boys with that name so I would think boy first. I agree with the other poster that if you do use this as a first name make sure the middle name is a girls only name.

I think Perry for a girl is awesome! It is absolutley adorable. I would pair it will more of a feminane mn though. Perry Michelle is my fav on your list, unless your ln begins with an "S" =)

I like it! Peri Gilpin is an actress on Frasier and I always thought it sounded quite spunky and cool. Although I do agree with the pp -- I think it would work best paired with a more traditional feminine, but not frilly, name. Something like:

Perry Catherine
Perry Caroline
Perry Grace

...or maybe some other feminine family name you might like?

BTW, I hope you don't get too many harsh responses on this one. I've noticed that most posters on name boards do not like unisex names. I have no idea why. One guess would be that a few authors of popular baby naming books also don't seem to support the whole unisex name thing, so I think people sort of buy into that. Please don't let it sway your opinion -- Perry is a family name and it is fantastic for a girl and even more fantastic for a grown woman!

Perry is nice, but Makelle is better. :) Please don't go with Perry Elyse oe Ellison though. Perry Ellis is a semi-popular brand of teen clothing.

I appreciate your comments! I agree that there seems to be strong opinions on unisex names. Sometimes I agree if it's a definate boy name that would sound totally ridiculous
for a girl or would cause her to be teased, then I would be against it. But this name isn't used very much and I always thought it had a feminine ring to it anyway. I think that's why more people don't use it for their boys. I was alittle surprised by the advice to use a more feminine name for a mn. I thought that if it were just a "spunky" mn then Perry wouldn't stand out so much as a boy's name. Do you understand what I'm getting at. So maybe I need to re-evaluate my list. What about:

Perry Elizabeth

Perry Geneva

Perry Elise

Perry Lapreal

Perry Celeste

Perry Danielle

Perry Justine

Are there any that were feminine enough on my other list to go with Perry. I do like Perry Geneva because I love it so much. Let me know more of your ideas for a mn. Thanks again for your input.

My FIL's name is Perry...so I first think boy. But there was a woman at our church when I was younger whose name was Peri...so yes I think it would work just lovely for a girl as well. I agree though that you should try to pair it with a more girly middle name, especially if there is a family name that would sound nice.

Thanks for your comments. I will try to find something that we like that would be more feminine. Do you have any suggestions? I'm getting very tired of some of the most popular mn's right now. I would like something alittle different. I love the names Claire, Grace, Catherine, and others that are so popular, but I don't really want to use them. Is there anything else that you can think of that would work. I'm glad that you knew a woman named Peri and that it fit her as an adult. Thanks.

We still really like Makelle. It definately is still number one on our list. Haven't found the perfect mn yet though. I just thought that Perry would be different and cute. Thanks for your comments. Keep them coming. We need help with this one.
