"Cross" as a boy's name???
| Tue, 11-29-2005 - 10:18am |
I posed this question a few months ago and appreciate all who responded. With 3 1/2 weeks to go before my due date we still have not decided on a name. The name "Cross" is coming up again. What do you think? I would appreciate your responses (good and bad) even if you responded last time. Your opinions will likely help us decide once and for all. THANKS!!!

Well, I'm not sure I like Cross so much, but I do very much love Cruz, the Spanish version of Cross.
HTH!
To the original poster:
I have read all the posts since my 1st post responding to yours & I have to say that I did NOT think you were trying to be religious or anything to that effect w/ the name Cross. The religious connection didn't even dawn on me (& I'm a regular church attendee). And the synonym of being mad didn't dawn on me either. Maybe I'm naive but I just thought of Cross as a strong, masculine name without any other connotations.
I love this name. I wanted to use it but DH didn't really like it. I think you should go for it.

hey there. I've just finished reading a novel called "prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld, and she (yep, this Curtis is a woman) named one of her male characters Cross. it was on the NYT best seller list over the summer. it didn't hang me up that the name has a religious connotation, nor that the word is not a compliment for a person.... I liked it and disassociated from the meanings entirely. If you're wondering what it might feel like to see the name used, I'd recommend reading the book just to get used to it in a setting that's not your own... it was a good book, nevertheless.
best of luck to you! your birthday is almost here!

I KNEW I'd heard that name before!
I don't really associate it with either the feeling or the religious connotation either, I just think to me, its one of those "rich kid" names that gets passed down for tradition sake.
