Cruel & Unusual Punnishment for baby?

I'm not pregnant, but I love the baby name board, and my best just found out that after 5 years of trying that they are pregnant! They had given up just after Thanksgiving, and BAM! pregnant by New years. It's terriffic. Anyway...
Do you think it would be cruel and unusual to name your child Serendipity?
I've always loved it, but been quite scared. Perhaps I am seeing a Serendipitous cat in my future..
I just think Serendipty sounds like such a witchy, feminie girls name, despite the meaning. LOL
I tease my SO if we accidentally get pregnant, we will name it Serendipity and become hippies.
WDYT?

Maybe you can call her "Dippy" for short?
I never would have envisioned myself suggesting Karma or Kismet for alternatives to anything, but here I am. Is Destiny too, well, stripper for you? How about Fortuna? Felicity? Faustine means "lucky."
Serendipity as a word comes from the legend of the princes of Serendip, which is an old name for Sri Lanka. So, in effect, it's like saying "Sri Lankishness." Here's a stretch: Ceylon (also an old name for Sri Lanka).
Serendipity does, incidentally, sound like a great name for a cat.
I know what you mean about Serendipity, its a nice looking name and has a lovely meaning but I think it is too long and I dont like the sound of the 'dipity' part.
How about:
Seren (Welsh for 'Star')
Serena
Serene
I think they would be less 'out-there'.
I agree with the pp. You may like the name in theory, but it's just a bit too, well, dipity, if you KWIM? I like the other suggestions, especially Seren, meaning star, and would also suggest Serenity, meaning serenity (LOL). I grew up with a girl named this (although she was teased once or twice about the product assocaition ... do they still make those? I have no idea. LOL

Oh please don't do that to the poor child. What nicknames would the kids come up with??? Dip, Dipity, Saran Wrap are just a few that popped into my head.

LOL. Well, CURRENTLY, Serendipity mean "happy accident". Which is why I thought an oopsie pregnancy might be a fittign name for the product. LOL
I DO think Serendipity is a good cat name. But it could be such a pretty little girl too!
LOL =) I'm having too much fun with this.lol
