Dawson ... for a girl?

With the trend of naming girls "boy surnames," what does everyone think of Dawson for a girl? I mentioned the name to DH tonight as a boy's possibility...but he said it was too much of a girly name for a boy. So ... I then suggested Dawson for a girl's possibility! LOL

I never thought about this name at all ... for a boy or girl. But tonight when I mentioned it as a girl's name, I REALLY liked it. Who knows, it may be one of those passing fads that I won't like in a few days, weeks or months...but maybe it won't be. I know that it may seem like too much of a boy's name because it has the word "son" in it, but so do other boys' names that are being used for girls, like Addison. Yet those names are too popular and I've never heard of a boy named Dawson, let alone a girl!

WDYT????

Many of my friends are loving this combo, esp with Annabel first. A few of my friends really like it for a first name, but they are a lot braver than me! LOL Not sure I could actually name a girl a boy's name, but I do like Dawson so much and hopefully someday I will have the courage. I just think it's really hip even as a middle name.

Definitely seems securing Dawson for the mn spot, whether you go with Annabel or another fn, would be the perfect solution for you. It seems everyone quite likes it that way, it avoids any hassles -- or reservations -- you might have with using it as a fn, you can use it 99% of the time if it really ends up "fitting" her ... obviously, you can already tell from the Devanie example, I LOVE giving a child options. ;)

Options are sooo great! Wish I had that growing up! haha

Thanks to everyone and especially you Kelli for giving me honest opinions and suggestions. It really helped get "the name" for the top of my list -- we'll see where it ends up on DH's list tonight. hehe. My mind changes constantly and I'm always on here asking opinions on different names, so I'm sure our list will make it on here at some point!

After all this debating, I bet I will wind up having a boy!

And if I do wind up having a boy, what do you think of Dawson for a boy? DH hates it for a boy. Grr. Can't win. I think you said it was 233 or something last year for a boy so it's not like it's too "out there." I am just considered because DH thinks it doesn't sound very "manly" for a boy. I have to agree to a certain extent, but I still love the name.

It's certainly not "out there" ... actually, -son names are just as popular for boys, so Dawson fits right in with Jackson, Grayson, Lawson, Carson, Harrison, Hudson, et al
