Deirdre - what do you think, my husband loves it, he is insisting, he is very into celtic mythology. Dayr-dra is the pronounciation.
I think this name is way, way too common, the first thing that pops to mind is an old slightly senile woman, what do you think?
I'm not sure how this name comes across. I've tried explaining he's just in love with a story.

I like Deirdre a lot! Maybe it's because my family is mostly Irish-American? :) I even considered it before if I have a daughter, but there are other names a bit higher on the list. I don't see someone "senile and old" at all! I see a young, beautiful girl. There is a gorgeous actress named Deidre (very similar name)-can't think of her last name. I grew up with a Deirdre who's brother was Declan. Can't get more Irish than that! I think it would make a great choice-it's so much better than some of the true old lady names that are now back in vogue. Deirdre sounds young and fresh to me!

My parents named me Deidra, but of course that was in the 80's me and my partner disagreed because if it was a girl he wanted Deidra to be the middle name, personally I resent my name and hold a slight grudge towards my parents for naming me that. Of course where Im from the spelling isn't correct for my family origins so its alittle different. I think it is old fashion, but I dont think there will ever be an expecting couple who agree on names.

Sorry, but I think it's ugly. I'd give him another book with better names in it.

In the defense of the other poster....Some names just honestly sound terrible to some people and "horrible" is a nice way to put it for them. I've seen a more then a few that by saying horrible was about the nicest thing one could say.

Just in my defense....Deirdre is not a name I like at all, however, I have seen much worse.
