Hi, I'm Yvonne...dh and I are getting ready to ttc after a recent m/c(Aug.04)...we'd already agreed on a boy's name, and will still use it, if we have another boy. My question is this...Dh and I both LOVE the name Jackson, and use the nickname "Jack". BUT...dh has a wonderful Uncle that we'd love to honor, it was his grandfathers name as well, so it's a good family name....the name, John. MN will be Walter(dh's late dad's name).

It's a very traditiona nn for John & I say go for it. John Walter sounds very nice. A friend recently named her son John(in honor of a g'pa), but will call him Jack. on the birth announcement it gave all the regular info & then on the bottom below his photo it said "my friends call me Jack". HTH!

John F. Kennedy was called Jack (and with "Jack and Bobby" on TV right now, I'm sure most people will easily make the connection between John and Jack). It's not weird at all. Go for it. :)

Anyone who remembers JFK will know it's normal--his nn was Jack.

**I'm editing this to say that I didn't read all the posts before I posted this--I didn't mean to repeat what the last poster said!**

Anyway, go for it! Jack is a great nn for John.

I hope I don't offend you~I'm just being honest! I'm 25, and I would never have known that Jack is a nn for John, so I thought it was a little weird...Now that I know that, I don't think it's weird, but...What about just giving him 3 names? :) Just kidding. My vote is *some* people might not "get it", but really he's YOUR baby, so it's OK!! :)

My DDs (now 11 and 7) have each had Johns in their classes who have been called Jack. I think it's a very common NN for John.

Before I give my opinion, I do have to tell you that I strongly dislike Jackson, and just as strongly love John..........so you know where I'm coming from! But beyond my personal feelings, Jackson is very trendy at the moment, and John is a timeless classic. I believe Jack is a fairly well-known nickname for John, and I think your son would be better served by a classic name than a trendy one in the long run. I do like Jack very well. Good luck with the baby........sending "sticky" baby vibes your way!

If we had a boy, we were going to do the same thing! My grandpa's name was John, and I wanted to honor him, and DH and I both like Jack (and John). We were going to use the name John Frederick (to honor my grandfather and several of DH's relatives) and call him Jack. We figured he could decide if he wanted to be John or Jack when he was older.

Stephanie w/ Megan Joy (6/6/03) and maybe Juliana May due 11/25/04

Great significance behind both names and Jack is a very common nn for John. Best wishes, Ginger
