DH doesn't like name that I like...

Please help me figure this out. I really like the name Ethan. My dh does not. He likes Austin. We both are "ok" with either Austin or Jackson. I am just not nuts over either. They are just "ok" to me. Should I push the fact that I like Ethan and see if I can win him over, or just settle for the name he likes. HELP!!! Naming our first born was so much easier!

My DH and I had a rule - if one of us didn't like the name it was off the table. You might want to try to come back to Ethan in the future, but don't push it.

Do you have any family names you can use - names that would be meaningful?

I feel your pain; I've had the same quandary. It really depends on how important it is to your DH...names are just as important to my DH as they are to me so I haven't pushed the names I like that he doesn't. Some men don't really care that much (I hear).
I guess my advice would be to keep on looking until you find a name you both love. I'm sure there is one out there! Good luck!

I have been really lucky because my DH usually likes the same names I do. The few times he hasn't (like when I mentioned Willow for a girl) I dropped the name and moved on. I really want him to love the names of our kids as much as I do. Maybe your husband doesn't like Ethan because it's so popular. You may thank him when your son is in school. Good luck!

I think you should keep looking to find a name you both love.

Find something you both like. I have an Ethan so of course, I think it's a great name. It's not THAT popular. Out of 150 students at Ethan's school, he's the only Ethan. HTH!

Hey,
Just a note about Jackson, IF you plan on calling him Jack, think of all the odd phrases that come up with that.. for example, my friend cracks up whenever she says," hungry Jack?" (pancake mix). And "get in the car, Jack" (carjack)... not a negative, just a little funny.
BTW, I LOVE Ethan, what does he not like about it?

With our first son my husband chose the first name and I picked the middle name. We did however both like the names. There were just some I liked more than the one we chose. Of course now I couldn't imagine my son with a different name, it fits him so well.
But for this new baby boy I am picking the first name. We just couldn't find one we both loved and I really feel strongly towards the name. The name I chose my husband didn't love at first, but after just about 2 weeks he's already calling the baby by his decided name. And you can tell he likes it. I would say unless your DH is completely against the name you like then I'd keep it on the table, especially since you seem very attached to the name. Best wishes, Mary
