DH seems to love to disagree with me on every name I bring up he likes nothing. NOTHING!
He seems to like traditional, strong masculine names, what would call plain jane names. And well as you can see below my taste isn't that.
This is my list of names and his reasons for not liking each name. Am I crazy?
Asher - he thinks this sounds too feminine
Cooper - sounds like a last name
Caspian - it's the name of a sea and he thinks it sounds weird
Elliott nn Eli - he thinks this name is okay but not crazy about it
Ellery - he thinks this sounds like I just made it up
Emmett - doesn't care for, thinks it sounds like a weak name for a boy
Finnlay nn Finn - says it's a last name not a frist name
Jasper/Caspar - reminds him of Caspar the friendly ghost
Kearsley - Sounds like a girls name
Lennox nn Lex - Again sounds like a last name.
Luke - he has a negative association from childhood w/ this name
Logan - he thinks is too popular and someone in the family already used it
Morley - he hates this name
Noah - he just doesn't care for
Russell nn Rusty - he doesn't like at all
Shane/Shai - Likes this but it's the name of a very good friend so he won't use
Westley - he doesn't care for
Please can any of you help suggest a name we both might like for a boy???
*** The names we both love for a girl are settled they are: Vianne and Esther nn Essie

A lot of husbands don't like the sort of names you like. Mine is one of them. I knew this immeidately upon our first name discussion -- I knew it was going to have to be John not Jonathan, Christopher not Cooper. The fact is, most men associate Jonathan and Cooper with weakness, rather than strength. I was surprised to see your husband dislikes Luke, but then realized this was because of a personal association rather than not liking its style. If I were you, I would name the boy something classic and then use the mn as the place to put a surname that is IN YOUR FAMILY. My husband does not like surnames as first names and doesn't like surnames that aren't "real". In other words, go back in your family tree and find out if you have a Thayer or a Watson or a Bennett, rather than just choosing one that "sounds good." My best friend named her son Hugh Williams. I plan to name my son John McCord. My father's name was Henry Addison. That way, your husband doesn't have to say the name "Ellery" on the baseball field (and I agree, this sounds like a kid who will get hit in the face with the ball) but you get the mn as a place with a little style. Just not meaningless style. Ideas:
Charles mn: (fill in surname with family meaning)
Edward
Elias (nn: Eli)
George
Henry
Hugh
John
Jack
Joseph
Mark
Matthew
Patrick
Paul
Peter
Phillip
Robert
Thomas
William
I really like the names you have suggested, but then once I read his reaction, as silly as it is, I can almost see his point (Not agree, but see). Here are my suggestions. Let me if you like any and what his objections are! :) Good Luck!
Archer (similar to Asher, but less feminine)
Carter (I guess this could be a last name)
Colton
Dalton
Dylan
Ethan
Emery
Fletcher
Lyndon
Maddox
Sean
Sammuel (nn Sammie or Sam)
Weston
Warner
BTW I really like Vianne
