Well I love the name Dezi I think it is soooo cool for a girl. Spelled as DEZI because the guy spelling is DESI. I think it is so different. We live in a small community where everyone knows everyone, so its nice to have different names. We also love Rio Hayes. I guess we didn't need any critism on the names we like....Thanks anyways..

Actually, both Desi (a short form of the male names Desederio and Desmond) and Dezi (also used as a nn for Desmond) are the "guy" spellings. ;) I don't recall all the replies you received, but I'm guessing that was part of the reason you didn't get good feedback on Dezi for a girl (not to mention the Z spelling looks closer to the word "dizzy"). I think you'd find many would like it if it were a nn, rather than the given name. Desdemona, Desiree, Desma/Desme, Decima, Lourdes, Mercedes, Damaris, Delores/Dolores, Dilys, Delice/Delicia, etc. (just a few, but there are plenty of options).

I don't think I got to reply to your original post, but I have nothing against Rio Hayes (this spelling ... I think you also had Haze?) other than the fact that it's nearly the literal description "River Haze." Similarly, you could use Riordan, Ricardo or Enrico, nn Rio (you may also like Rico). ;)

I'm afraid that I was gone for a while. Looks like, with the poll closed, I can't even see what you had up there. Oops '~'

Dezi is a cool name ^_^ It makes me think of Desiree. To me it doesn't seem either masculine or feminine, (except that in the English culture, if something isn't blatantly feminine it's masculine. I'll resist ranting) so if you say it's feminine, it's feminine. I'm sure nobody who would meet your daughter would question you in real life, not with all of the Lindsays, Lesleys, Madisons and so on running around.

Rio Hayes is cool, too. I love the river image ^_^

You seem to like names that are truly gender-neutral names, and not just masculine names that have been adopted by females. That's awesome.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I want my girl to be feminine but also strong & confident. My daughter Reese Abbie is definetly strong and confident as well as very girly, the name fits her to a T. I'm sure we will find the right one that just goes and sounds right and we know inside its the perfect fit.....Thanks again

Sometimes getting feedback--even negative responses!--can help reaffirm how much you really love your names! Plus, now you know what some people think about them, so you can be mentally prepared. I do think Dezi is cute now that I think about it more, and Rio is definitely cool. I'm glad you found names that are right for you. Good Luck!

I think the names you have chosen are great. I'm 7 months pregnant with a little boy and we have chosen to name him Van. Believe me, people always find something dumb to say. It was the same thing when I named my daughter 7 years ago. I named her Ava, and people just hated it. Now I read that its the 6th most popular name of the year. I think Desi is very pretty and different, which is refreshing!! :) Best of luck to you!!

I really like Dezi as a nickname for Desiree, Desdesmona etc., probably wouldn't use it as a given name myself but if you really like it, go for it!
