Heard a name last night on a movie---takes place in the 1800's in Britian. The name is Rowdan. They pronounced it Raw-den or others made it sound like Roar-den.
Want to know what others think about it--like it or hate it? Also, how would you say it??
Just wondering....

Not sure if I like it or not since I don't know the right way to say it! Based on that fact I probably don't like it!!
If I were to see that name in print I would probably say it w/ on "ow", like "ow, that hurts!" ROW-den.
Hmm. I think there are 2 names at work here- Rawdon, like Rawdon Crawley from Vanity Fair (NOT a good namesake, from what I remember), or the Irish Riordan, pron. REER-den, though I do know a north american family which pronounces it to rhyme with "jordan."
HTH!
