Because I'm obsessed with names, I have looked on just about every website for names that I like. Even though there are hundreds of beautiful names, They're mostly the same hundreds over and over, even the more unique ones listed are not THAT unique ...

SO, I was wondering everyone, who are some people you know with TRULY unique names, (if you love the name or hate the name, doesn't matter) but please specify if you like or don't like it and what the name makes you think of, if you like this person, their approx. age, gender etc! This is mostly just for fun!

Here are some that I know..

GIRLS

Jorah-3 yrs. old strawberry blonde VERY spunky, energetic, intelligent (I like this name)

Haruna-2 yr. old Japanese girl, quiet, and super sweet (not sure about this name)

Katsura- 5 yrs old, into art, nice, a little ecentric (NMS)

Angel- 6 yrs. old, drama queen, (nms)

Clemma- 83 yrs. old, my grandma, a wonderful woman (nms)

Tippany- 26 yrs old., my cousin, spunky, funny, fun, nickname Tippy (nms)

Virgilia- 80 yrs. old, DH's grandma, kind of grumpy, pronounced Veer-heel-ia (nmsaa)

Gaelwyn- 25 yrs. old, my middle name, my mom got it off a street sign when she went to Wales. Pronounced Gail-win. I like it but I don't know about for a first name.

BOYS

Tully-5 yr. old, very cute! smart, blonde with dimples (cute for a little boy, not sure about a teen or grown man)

Zane- 4 yrs. old, brown hair, dimples extremly addorable and well mannered. ( nice name, maybe not extremly out there)

Eldiberto- 30 yrs old. My husbands name, he's honestly the sweetest man on earth. The name, well, I don't think I'll have any Jrs...but it grows on you when you know him :)

Oriel- 20 yrs. old. My brother in law. nice guy, he's a dancer so I guess it fits him, but the name sounds a little feminine to me.

argh I know there are a lot more but I can't think of them right now, I'll post more later!

A few 'unique' names I've heard of:

Girls:

Zondra - very pretty brunette, would be about 30 now. (like it)

Cheylanda - (Shy-landa) Native American girl, around 30 also (nms)

Chewelah - another Native American, my cousin, who is now around 50

(pronounced Shu-wheela) (I love my cousin, but I wouldn't want to be saddled with this name)

Monet - the middle name for Chewelah (named after a town in Missouri) - (like it)

Gaytha - brunette, friendly girl from h.school - about 35 now (okay)

Terrell - not really my style, but okay

Shirleen - very friendly, but kind of brash lady - nms

Taylin - pretty, smart girl, about 13 years old (prounounced Tay-lynne) (like it)

Rielle - preppy, smart girl, around 15, (pronounced Ree-elle) sister of Taylin (like it)

Boys:

Jansen - athletic, football player - (like it)

Galen - nice all-American boy - (like it)

Forrest - not real unusual - but different - (okay)

Daxton - energetic, freckled boy - around 10 - (nn Dax is okay)

Garrick - preschooler - (like it)

I'm sure there are many others, but can't think of them now.

Let's see...here's a few names I think are at least unique enough that I don't know anyone else with the name (and I'll just do children's names, since most my friends my age are named Jennifer :)

Shoul (boy, 6 years): I think it's Japanese, pro. like "shoe" with an "l" on the end. It fits him, but nms in general.

Angus: I like it. He's a cute blond-headed 2-year-old. Big brother is Charles Fitzpatrick (Charlie).

Elliott (girl, 5 years): I know this is not unique, but she's the only little girl I know with the name. She goes by Ellie sometimes. I like it, even though I'm not a fan of unisex names.

Arimus (boy, 5 years): I don't know what orgin this is, but I like it. Pro. AIR-i-MUS with a short "i".

Riggs (boy, 3 years): family surname. NMS, but it's cute I guess.

Cruise (boy, 1 year): cute, but nms. I don't generally like the "verb" names. I just don't know how it will hold up when he's older.

Jett (boy, 4 years): not too unique, but I feel it's similar to the above name in that it may not "grow" with the child.

Polar (boy, newborn): darn it, I like it! I usually don't go for place names, but I just love this one.

It's interesting for me to realize that most the kids with unique names I know are boys, whereas in general, girls are given more unique names, I've heard. I have to say that almost all the girls I know are given the same trendy names.

Amy, mom to Nate (9), Calvin (7), and Tobias (4). You can find me at my blogs:

Ok, well since I have grown up in an "artsy" field I know quite a few, but here are some off the top of my head...

Drea-- (prn. Dray-uh)not short for Andrea or anything, mid-twenties, choreographer, she has kinda the "goth" look. Very nice, and creative. I would like the name better if it was a nn for something, but it's ok.

Sunni-- not really different, but it isn't used often. 2 yrs old. Named after her mom's dad, whose nn was Sunny. It fits her because her mom is a dancer and her dad is a musician, and she's already this blonde creative, cutie.

These 3 are sisters:

Byerly-- ballet dancer, 21yrs old, very graceful with long dark hair and beautiful ivory skin. On anyone else, this name is nms, but with her it's lovely.

Dowler-- 24yrs old. Very immature, and slightly dingy. The name is nmsaa.

Gaelen-- youngest sister, around 13 yrs. Very smart, cute little freckles. Not sure how I feel about this name, since it is a more masculine one, but it fits with the rest of her sisters.

Monessa-- mid-twenties, African-american girl. very softspoken and kind. I went to college with her and she was an amazing modern dancer. We all called her Mo, which I loved!

Brindle-- little girl I teach. I hate to say it but she's very rude, and bossy, and her mom is a pill! The name reminds me of the word bridle--nmsaa.

Kenthong-- (prn. Ken-Tong) this is my 5 month old nephew's mn. He is a mixed race with half being Laotian. I like the name because it has his dad's name, Kenneth, with a Laotian flair to it. Nice way to incorporate his heritage too, but I am glad it's his mn, because people who don't understand Laotian pronounciation might make fun of the "thong" part.

Singer-- yep, singer. He's this really boring guy that my dh still keeps in contact with because he feels sorry for him... that sounds awful, but it's true. He's an accountant, and both his parents were, you guessed it...singers!!! I guess their name idea ended up being wishful thinking.

That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure I'll be back!

Taryl - girl I used to work with at a bar

Sutton - girl in my daughter's preschool, sister is Scout

Tressie - girl I went to high school with, don't really like this name

Bane - guy friend of a friend, in his 30s, always makes me think his parents don't like him (bane of my existence comes to mind)

I don't know too many...

Girls/Women:

Tenny - a girl I went to high school with. irish, athletic, all american -- would be around 30. (cute -- kind of like a variation on Tierney -- but I'd doubt I'd ever use it. It's not formal enough)

Caprice - a girl I knew in high school. pretty brunette, italian, student-council type, would be around 27 now. (ok -- but again, I don't think I'd personally use it)

Philomena - was my great aunt -- spunky, tiny little italian woman who always was called "Mae." (nms)

Bronwen - my friend's cousin. Gorgeous blonde, very sophisticated city-type, around 35. (like it)

Aubrey - drama major/hippy-chick type -- tall blonde -- who I knew in college. (this is not so unusual, I know, but I love the name!)

Boys/Men:

Thorne - guy I knew in law school. Blonde hair, short, stocky, preppy. Probably in late 20s. (ok - but sort of soap opera-ish/boarding school for my taste)

Blase - my friend's older brother's name. I've never met him so I can't describe him, but he's in his early 30s. (I know he was named for St. Blasius, but again, sounds very soapy to me)

"And we go to church with a little boy named Eildert (prn El-Dirt). He was the 6th generation with that name. MN is Derk. Every generation alternated the fn and mn."

This is just plain awful - poor kid\s! I'm amazed it has stayed in the family for so long!
