Well, I'm five days away from my c-section and still toying with names.

Well, I think it would totally fine for you to use Rylan if that is the name you really love. I don't think the fact that you once taught a Rylan should preclude you from using it.

If you definitely decide to use it, I think you should consider future sibling names when deciding whether to use it for a girl or a boy.

It seems from your list that you normally prefer classic, feminine names for girls. In that case, I'd keep Rylan firmly in the boy category. However, if you are finding yourself more drawn to gender-neutral or gender-bending names for girls, Rylan would be an okay choice for girl. For example, sisters named Rylan and Harper or Rylan and Avery make much more sense than sisters named Rylan and Eliza or Rylan and Tessa. In the latter cases, I think almost everyone will assume Rylan is a boy. Ditto a situation where you have three children named Rylan, Elijah and Anna. I think Rylan screams boy in those cases.

That said...I'm not a huge fan of Rylan personally. It's just okay to me, whereas I think some of your other choices are fantastic. I love both Gabriel and Elijah for a boy, and I adore Eliza and Tessa. Personally, I would definitely be choosing from those four. Forced to choose, my top choices are Gabriel and Eliza. But honestly I think all four choices are wonderful.

Hi. I really like Gabriel Kenneth and Elijah Kenneth. They sound really great, and Gabe and Eli are nice nns.

I also like Eliza Katherine and Tessa Katherine best from your girl list. Both are gorgeous. But keep in mind what you might want to use in the future because Elijah and Eliza would be too close for siblings.

Rylan is nms for either boy or girl, sorry!,

Boys:

Gabriel - I hate this name, it is one of my least favorite of all boys names - it's the girliest actual boy name that exists (realize this is just MY opinion, but I just don't like it at all)

Elijah (Eli!) - like Eli better than Elijah

I like both Gabriel and Elijah. I prefer Gabriel, but both are nice. I prefer Elias over Elijah. I don't like Rylan for a boy or girl, sorry.

I like all of your girls names except Rylan. I like Eliza or Tessa the best. I like Callie but more as a nickname for Camille, Callista, etc.

Best of luck to you!

For me, Rylan is a syllable-exchange-program sort of name -- even if there aren't a lot of Rylans around in any one school or town, there will be lots of kids with names in that same family (Kaylen, Bryleigh, Miley, Kaylee, Ryley, Brylan, etc.). And to me, they all really run together and sound the same. But lots and lots and LOTS of people love this type of name, and even on a girl it would not stand out from the crowd too much because so many girls have unisex and boys' names.

But I adore the other boys' names you're considering - they're classic and masculine. And Anna, Eliza and Tessa are quite nice. (I can't really get into Callie because it's too nicknamey for my taste. But I like Calista, Callandra and Calla, any of which could have Callie as a nickname.)

Anyway, best wishes!

I like either Elijah or Gabriel; I find Elijah a little more rugged than Gabriel and therefore more appealing, but they're both lovely. I like Anna or Eliza (though, with the possibility of Elijah for a brother--you'd want to decide which you like more,) Tessa is nice, but it always feels just a little too young for me. Callie seems to lack substance as a given name. And Rylan...I have to agree with whoever made the syllable exchange program comment. It just doesn't seem like a name of any substance and just falls into the Lego name concept that's trendy right now. It doesn't do a thing for me. But you've got scads of others for both genders that are great!
