Different results at different sites

It is so interesting to me how the different sites answer so differently! This site really likes the name Mark. I don't so much, it was my sons suggestion. The expecting Aug. 2005 site results were exactly like my family results! With Max being very popular, and Mark being not so....Maclain had some really like it and others not.
Has anyone else had this happen and what do you think is the reason?
Interesting! But it makes it difficult to get conflicting advice! : ) Jules

I can't explain the differnces but it does go to show that we should take the suggestions on these boards somewhat lightly & really follow our hearts when naming our babies. It's a lot of fun seeing what others are thinking of in names, what's trendy, what's not, voting in polls ... but when it comes to it we, the parents, are the ones who have to live w/ the name we choose for our children. Not all of us others out here in cyberspace! Sometimes I think a person has a name that they really love & want to use but by getting a couple negative reactions on here it discourages them from using that name.
I'm rambling. Hope that made sense!
I can explain the differences in the responses that the different sites gave.

Yeah, I agree. We have been polling our family and so many of them don't like the name I was going to use(Maclain). They all love Max and a it doesn't seem to be very popular here. So now I am playing with these polls and waiting for my Dhs thoughts to gel. Our biggest problem is that we don't have a name that we really love and want. So that is why we are looking to others for input so much on this one. It is fun even if sometimes more confusing than helpful.

I don't go to any other sites, but I'd be willing to venture a guess that it's because this board seems to be very heavy on liking classic names and not the trendy.
also, names that I consider to be kind of preppy or yuppy, seem to be more apparent on this board.
that could be where you're getting the different results.
whenever there's a poll on here, especially girls, you can almost bet that if it's a mixture of classic and non-classic names, one of the classic ones gets the most votes.
I myself just get tired of hearing the classic names, it's not so much that I don't like them (well, actually, many of them I really don't like), and I especially dislike really old-fashioned names.
there are some classic names that I really like, but with me that's definitely the exception rather than the rule.
You're right, this sight is fairly heavy on traditional names. Lucky for me, that's what I like, so that's why I gravitated toward this site. And, if anyone allows a website to talk him or her out of a name, then to me, that just shows that he or she didn't really love the name to begin with. I got horrible feedback to some of my names (Cora and Rosalie, for instance), but that hasn't dampered my enthusiasm for using them when I have children. I don't like trendy names because they often end up sounding ridiculous once the decade has passed (think about all those Jupiters, Rainbows, and Moonbeams from the 60s--don't you think most of them would rather have more mainstream names??). What will people think, 20 years from now, when they hear all these names starting with Mac...Mackenzie, Mackenna, Mackayla, Maclay...and all these Bri names...Brianne, Brianna, Brielle, Briella, etc.???
Also, another reason that traditional names are so popular on this site is that they're becoming more popular now, thank God, than the silly, made-up sounding names of the late 90s. Think about it: Grace, Charlotte, Elinor, Kate, and Isabelle are rising steadily, now.
I have had different results on the same list of names too! I was wondering why the variation...but took into consideration the hormone factor. I am still confused and not sold on a name for my first child (a girl) yet! Its as if I am waiting for her to tell me. So, I take the results from each and watch my reaction...I could feel certain feelings about certain names that were not favored or favored. It tells a lot.
Good luck!
