Different "types" of popular names?

I was talking with my husband about the popularity of the name Abigail (which I think he prefers, although he doesn't really come right out and say so lol), and he made an interesting point.
He said even if the name is popular right now, he doesn't consider it "trendy" popular like many names, such as Kaitlyn (our oldest lol), Madison, Taylor ... or all the now-grown women named Kelly (my name, spelled Kelli lol), Jennifer, Tiffany. KWIM?
He thinks of it more as a "classically" popular name, such as Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, Anna or Grace (ie. names that are quite traditional and have been around for some time, but are simply enjoying an inevitable surge in popularity).
Anyway, I just thought that was an interesting point to consider. I still think Abigail is VERY popular, but I was just wondering what everyone else thought of this "theory."
TIA!
~Kelli
Ps. Just wanted to clarify that I am in no way trying to insult anyone with/using these names (obviously, since one mentioned is my daughter's and one is my own lol). I was just wondering how the trendy-popular versus classic-popular image might affect perception of the name. Thanks!
