Dillon/Dillyn as a girls name...

I'm currently 2 months pregnant. If we're having a boy, we have decided on the name Aiden Michael Byrd... For a girl, I like the name Dillon/Dillyn Marie Byrd- but my mother and grandmother, and my husband's mother think it's "too masculine". Also- If I stick with this name, I can't decide if I want to spell it Dillon or Dillyn...

I know that I mentioned to you before that I preferred Dylan, but now that I've read your explanations, I feel a little differently. If you're trying to honor your mom with Lyn/Lynn, and you're also planning to use the nn Dillie/Dilly like your ancestor, then I think it's great to use the Dillyn spelling.

Again, it's not my style, but I love to see names that have some meaning behind them. :-) Good luck with your new baby!

I've FINALLY made up my mind... I will find out the gender next week, or maybe the week after, and if it's girl, her name will be...

Dilynn Marie Byrd

Shortly after I had made up my mind, I was trying on some dresses at "Motherhood Maternity" while my grandmother was flipping through one of their irish baby name books. It was then that she came across- Dilynn... Spelled exactly like that, as a girls name, meaning "of the sea" =)

I also think that is a boy's name. There are lots and lots of girl names to choose from.

Hi!

I'm not a big fan of Dylan (spelled anyway) for a girl. I especially don't like the spelling Dillyn. I find myself pronouncing it Dilly-n. I do, however, like the spelling Dilynn much better. I don't quite get the whole Dilly vibe going on. I definitely do not like the nn Dilly! That being said......I admire you for reading and accepting the mostly negative comments you've received gracefully and still wanting to use the name! That shows me how much you really do love the name. For me, personally, if I had posted a WDYT about a certain name and got mostly negative feedback, I'm sure I would shy away from that name. So kudos to you girl for sticking to your guns!

Dillyn looks completely misspelled to me. Dylan or Dillon is okay, not my style at all but not horrible. But I don't like Dillyn at all.
