Do these names work?
| Fri, 08-24-2007 - 7:48pm |
Hi! We're expecting our third baby in March. We have two sons, Max and Solomon (see my lovely siggy).
At this moment in time we have TWO names: Tova Maureen or Ephraim Mordecai (MN is a ?? in this case).
Do these names match our boys' names? Do you have other suggestions? Do you like Dvira or Aviva for girls? I like those last two but DH does not. Any other boy names? I'm not 100% sold on Ephraim, but it is the ONLY boy name DH was even okay with.
You'll not be surprised to hear that we're going to find out the gender ASAP - being this lost for names I'd at least like to narrow it down to ONE list! Yikes.

Ephriam doesn't appeal to me at all and it doesn't really go with Max and Soloman in my opinion. Do you like any of these?

I love Aviva - it means spring, right? Very appropriate for March!
Ephraim... not so much.
How about Asher -- I like that meaning, too (happiness)!

Hi there. Congrats on #3!
Max and Solomon are fabulous names. Great work there.
I think that your choices fit in really well. I specifically like Ephraim.
Tova is really nms. I much prefer Aviva. Tova is not bad at all though. Aviva just seems very pretty & feminine. Dvira is not bad, but the two considents next to each other looks a bit akward to English speakers (although it's perfectly normal in Hebrew).
Here are some more boy names that might work for you:
Ari
Avram/Avey-I love this.
Abram/Abe
Aaron
Benjamin/Ben
Ezra
Eli
Gilad
Isaac
Jonah
Leor
Noam
Nathan
Samuel/Sam
Hope this helps!
I love Aviva!!! It is so lovely, and the meaning is nice too. It's long been kind of a guilty pleasure for me; unfortunately, my DH hates it.
Ephraim is nice, I think it is really strong and interesting b/c you don't see it often.
Good luck,
Liz
Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
Abram (I LOVE, DH not so much).
Asher (again, I like it, DH...ugh).
Ari - I like, he 'knew someone'
Ezra - on our short list for Max, but Ezra Pound was a fascist...kind of weird association for a half-Jewish kid whose father is an activist and whose mother has an MA in English (ie: we could not get away with claiming we didn't know about the association!).
Eli - cousin's kid's name, sadly. I LOVE this name, as does DH, but...
Sadly, DH doesn't really love Aviva or Dvira, but hey - if there are twins I swore the 2nd gal would be Aviva! :o)
We like Tova because it is 'strong' and sounds female without being feminine.
But Ephraim...I like...but don't love. Sigh. I'm kind of hoping it's a girl for the name, hoping for a boy because I know boys. Erg. Hopefully we'll know soon!
(I also like Aviva because it sounds like 'life' to me, and after we had a MC in June and got pregnant right away again it seemed even MORE fitting to me, KWIM?)
eta: what about Akiva? (twin girls Akiva and Aviva - JUST KIDDING, LMAO!)
Keep the suggestions coming! :o)
Siggy by the AMAZING Alicia at Momsquawk.com! Thanks!
I love Aviva too.
Hi Cheri!
I like both of your first names for potential kids. Tova is pretty and unusual. I also like Aviva, probably a little better than Tova, maybe because I knew an Aviva. I think Aviva sounds a little more young and playful. Like Tova always gets her homework done before going out to play, and Aviva sneaks out the bedroom window to play and then gets her homework done later :)
Maureen would work with either girl's name, since the "een" ending is a nice contrast to the "a" ending of Tova or Aviva.
I like Ephraim because I knew an Ephraim in high school who was really smart and funny and outgoing. I feel like it's a name people will have heard and seen but he probably won't have eight Ephraims in his class, unlike if you called him Tyler or Jacob.
I am a little less crazy about the middle name Mordecai. The only Mordecai I've ever known of is in the Purim story (I'm not Jewish but I have a lot of Jewish friends) and to me it's an old man name because of that. Also since Ephraim ends in an M and Mordecai starts with an M, you kind of wind up saying Ephra Mordecai or Ephraim Ordecai. Does that make sense?

sigh. I'm starting to have issues with Ephraim. DH is not a splendid speller, and I am SO sick of spelling my name all the time, I'm afraid he's have to contend with that, too. I also worry about my mother because she's weird with some pronunciations and I'm worried she'd call him eff-rye-am or something bizarre like that.
DH agreed to Akiva!!! So, it's sort of a compromise from Aviva, but I like it just as much. So now we're set on TWO girls names and zero boys' names.
I'm starting to think this must be a girl, because we've been the opposite with our past two babies (had the boys' names, no dice with girls' names).
Thanks for all the input!
:o)
