Do these names work?
| Fri, 08-24-2007 - 7:48pm |
Hi! We're expecting our third baby in March. We have two sons, Max and Solomon (see my lovely siggy).
At this moment in time we have TWO names: Tova Maureen or Ephraim Mordecai (MN is a ?? in this case).
Do these names match our boys' names? Do you have other suggestions? Do you like Dvira or Aviva for girls? I like those last two but DH does not. Any other boy names? I'm not 100% sold on Ephraim, but it is the ONLY boy name DH was even okay with.
You'll not be surprised to hear that we're going to find out the gender ASAP - being this lost for names I'd at least like to narrow it down to ONE list! Yikes.

It is my second choice, though, Tova is definitely first.
Funny, a pp mentioned that Tova sounded like "the girl who stays in and does her homework while Aviva is out partying" (or something along those lines). I believe she was rooting for Aviva - but that description it TOTALLY what I'd want a daughter of mine to be like: studious and serious rather than silly and partying. :o)

Yeah, sorry, that was me with the Tova = serious, Aviva = playful. I didn't mean to imply that Aviva would be out getting wasted in junior high. I think the name makes me think of the word "vivacious" which means sort of active and perky. I want my kid to be hard working and studious too. I think I liked Aviva a little better because I knew a really nice girl named Aviva. I'm totally like that - if I know a nice person with a name, I like the name, and if I know a jerky person with a name, I'll hate the name.
I like Akiva too, but not as much as Tova. Tova sounds sweeter, and will age well.
Too bad about the change of mind on Ephraim, I like Ephraim, but I can see where people might spell it wrong or pronounce it differently.
Let's hope it's a girl and then you don't have to worry about Ephraim :)

Who knows, Ephraim may make a comeback...it's still early (I'm only 11w2d).

It could be fun, couldn't it, to have her be the first granddaughter? But, if not, I still love Ephraim. (And isn't it funny how much you can waffle throughout a pregnancy? We went through a huge list--54 names at the beginning--and tacked and removed and still came back to one that had been hanging around for years.) Some others in a similar vein:
Jethro (I know a lot of people think "Beverly Hillbillies," but, c'mon...that show was on in the '60s.)
Amos
Ezra (my son's mn)
Jabez
Josiah
Judah
Wow, I am surprised to see so many Ephraim-naysayers. I love Ephraim! I think it is a strong name, and goes lovely with the other boys'.
Tova; I'll have to think on that one. :) I've never heard it before.
I am salivating here LOL. I love love love Tova and Ephraim. Aviva is gorgeous too.
Have you considered Miriam or Esther?
Amos WAS my nephew's name, LOL. He went by this until he was 11. He got totally teased about his name, so now he goes by his middle name.
Ezra - no (I explained why earlier but - Ezra Pound was a fascist...so...)
Miriam - I LOVE it but it's my super nasty SIL's MN. Oddly enough, we were talking about this as a MN at one point.
Esther - I LOVE it, DH is just okay about it, he likes Tova and Akiva MUCH more!
You guys are so great with the suggestions that actually are in line with our thinking. Amazing!

Love your boys names, very nice. I also really love the girls options of Tova, Aviva, and Akiva. Ephriam Mordecai is okay but definately don't love it. I like the both seprarately but together maybe they are too much. I see several names I have tossed around mentioned and were decided against (ie:Ezra which I love!). I'll toss a few more at you and see what you think.

I hope Ephraim makes your final cut; I just love it. Tova and Aviva are gorgeous, too. Akiva is okay, but feels like it doesn't have the sparkle of the other two--it feels harsher to me. Whatever you choose, I think it will be a great match with Max and Solomon (love, love, love Solomon, btw!)
I have to ask, how bad was your nephew teased over Amos? It's one of my top 2 names for a second boy--I waffle back and forth between Amos and Leo--but I would feel awful if my son was teased so much he switched to his middle name...
