Lately I have been liking the name Cannon. Is it very popular? Opinions? Do you know any boys with that name if so how old are they?? Thanks Angie.

I know one boy named Cannon. He is eight years old. Prior to meeting him, I had never even heard the name before.

I think Larry King and his wife have a son named Cannon, but that is the only time I've heard of it.

Met one kid named Cannon. 8 years old. He was THE biggest brat I've ever been around. Now when we talk about him, we laugh because the name surely seemed to fit, but it was a negative connotation. I think the name Cannon would only work if the person turned out to be extremely unique and dignified.

I don't know anyone, male or female (hey, I threw it in b/c you never know, with the rate of boys-as-girls names rising astronomically) that has this name. I don't think I would name a child this as it seems to "word-ish" to me. It brings to mind Gettysburg, army suits, smoke and gunpowder, etc too easily for me. Sorry...

All that being said, the actual sound of the name doesn't sound horrible, I just don't like the associations that come to mind.

YES, just one. He was a student in my kindergarten class last year. So he is 6/7 yrs. old. He was the sweetest cutest thing! His parents thought it was a great "football" name/linebacker! haha

I don't think it is that popular - just here and there b/c he is the only one I had ever heard of.

Good luck!

I've never met anyone with this as a given name (just surnames). One other thought, though--Canon is also a title given to some priests. Obviously a very different literal meaning than cannon. Just food for thought... ;)

I don't personally like the name, violent associations and all that. The only similar ones I've met are Canaan and Dannon.

The only Cannon I know is actually a guy whose last name is Cannon. I generally don't care for nouns as names, but I do like the sound of this as a first name. I think it could fit the right little boy personality wise, but it's not a name for everyone.
