I tend to like one-syllable names as either nns of mns, but that's just my preference for the flow of the name. In this case, I'd probably go with Catherine Shea, but really Shea Catherine is just as nice. I love both names individually and together. It's a nice Irish name that doesn't feel trendy at all.

Catherine Shea does sound nice...what does nns of mns mean? Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate them!

Thanks so much, I love to know there are other people with the name, i.e. it's not "just a new millenium name"! Katherine with a K is so nice!

Sorry, I forget sometimes that not everyone posts here incessantly and knows all the acronyms.

nn = nickname
mn = middle name

So, like I said, I almost always prefer one-syllable names to be either middle names or nicknames for a longer name. That tends to be solely because I think names flow better with the longer name first. So personally, I'd name my daughter Catherine Shea even if I intended to call her Shea. (The names I have picked out for girls are Caroline Harper and Eleanor Blythe, but I plan to call my girls Harper and Blythe.)

The other option is to use Shea as a nick name. There are tons of great Irish names where you could use Shea as a nn. Personally I love Siobhan, Sinead

I like the name, but why give a girl an irish boy's name? There are plenty of beautiful irish girl names. Maybe this is becoming my pet peeve?

To me, Shea and Catherine are totally different styles and are not complimentary.

I like the sound of it, but remember that no one will hear her full name on the playground. Just Shea. Which is, as previously posted, a boys name. While this wouldn't usually concern me, the fact that in your poll, there isn't an option for "that's a boys name!" makes me wonder if you've taken this into consideration.

Shayna? (Yiddish, I know... I'm not sure if you're going for Irish so I thought I'd suggest it anyway.)
Sive (Way Irish. Even moreso if you go all in and spell it Sadhbh.)
Sheila (Ditto... and you could call her Shea if you wanted, I guess.)

Unless, of course, you're perfectly happy giving your girl a boys name. In that case, proceed as you were. It's a little overdramatic for my taste (because it's like naming a girl Jack)--I voted soap opera--but it sounds nice.

Shea, (we would spell it Shae) is one of the few names that DH and I agree on. We met a GIRL at our old coffee shop with this name and we both really liked it. Yes, it's a boy's name also, but what isn't these days.

I heard someone tell me the other day that they met a "Kevyn" on the playground and how she was the cutest little girl!

I think Shea Catherine (though I like it Katherine) sounds pretty.

I think one of our options for our daughter would be Shae Corinne. ;)
