Do you think the name Ezra sounds feminine? I really love it but I'm afraid it will be used on girls because of the -a ending (if it isn't being used already), like Micah. So what do you think?

I don't think it's feminine at all, I would find it very odd if I heard it on a girl.

How funny - I'm due in about 3 weeks, and if it's a boy we are using Ezra Charles. I think it's definitely masculine. It's a book in the bible, and has been used steadily, but rarely for over a hundred years in the US, according to the SSA site, and has never showed up on the girls side. It is such an established name, and doesn't follow the trends of crossover names, in my opinion. I just hope it doesn't get too popular!

I sure hope it stays a boys name, and Micah too!

Ezra is incredibly masculine. I think you have to realize some use masculine names for their dd's BECAUSE they want something with a strong feel to them. I seriously doubt women named Michael or Jeffrey were named so because their parents thought they sounded "pretty and feminine," KWIM?

While the -a ending might come across as feminine in certain unfamiliar names, I think Ezra is recognized enough as a male name not to cause any confusion. In other words, even if some did name their dd Ezra, I'm pretty sure she would be assumed to be a boy on paper -- not the other way around.

Think of Joshua, Josiah, Noah, Jonah, Asa, Hosea, Isaiah, Elijah, Jeremiah, etc. All recognized masculine names ending in -a or the "a" sound.

It does not sound feminine, at all. Ezra is a great boys' name. Lots of boys' names end in a or ah.

No, no, no. Ezra is a great *boy* name! Of course there will be some confused people out there who might use it for girls every once & a while, but I don't think it will be the next Avery or anything. It's safe. :)

Ezra is a boys name, but yes, i think could be a girls name as well. for me sounds more girly because of the 'rah'. (i wouldnt, but if i were to give the name for a girl, would be Ezrah, and i'd probably do Ezrah Anne, or something like that) the culture we live in effects that, such as i think Luca is a girly name, but in Europe and elsewhere, is a common boys name.
