Dh and I have had a name for both a boy and a girl for a LONG time, but recently, I have come across two DOGS with the name that we had picked for a girl. The name is "Sadie." I love it, but what if it becomes the next "Fifi?" What do you think?

I seem to recall that Oprah Winfrey's favorite dog is named Sadie.

Sadie is what everyone always called my great grandmother, fn Sarah. I love the name and definately don't think it sounds like a dog's name. Look at how many people have dogs named Max or something. People still name their kids Max and no one thinks about dogs then.

<I have to be honest, I have heard Sadie used for a couple of dogs' names myself. It might even be a dog's name in a TV show, but I can't think of which show it would be.
However, if you really like it, it is a very pretty name, so I say go for it. Something like that, even if people think of it as a dog's name, they would totally get over that as soon as they meet your little girl.

It's a GIRL!!

You're going to laugh, but Sadie was the nickname (her real name was Sarah) of my great-grandmother's lesbian lover. So I always think of a big, older Jewish woman with a Russian accent.
I do know two younger Sadies though. DS had a Sadie in his preschool class last year. My BIL's first wife had a daughter named Sadie who must be in her early twenties now.
Sadie is a great name! Def, not for a dog. When I hear Sadie I think of a classy woman living in the city. Don't ask. Anyways, Sadie is a classic name. It's not generational, it will never go out of style, it's feminine enough and it can stand on its own. If you truly are having doubts, perhaps give her a middle name that you wouldn't mind as her first name, so if she doesn't like it for the same reason you were having doubts, she can go by her middle instead!-hope this helps.
