Does "Leo" sound too ethnic for a Greek?

Thanks guys for hanging in there with me today. DH has been on this kick of wanting to call the baby Leo, but I'm afraid with a long crazy Greek last name he'll sound too "off the boat" on a resume one day.

I hate to sound like that, but when it comes to giving your kid the best chance life has to offer, you find yourself being very sensitive to stereotypes.

OKAY - onto the name! Our last name is pronounced "KARVE-uh-NEED-us". Options thus far include August, Ross, Henry, James and Leo with hopefully my maiden name (Myers) as the MN.

Don't ask me why I am so convinced this child is a boy! Hahaha - you guys are AWESOME namers!!! THANK YOU!!

:)

I think of Leo as Italian (Leonardo), then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -- but that's just because they are my nephew's current obsession. :)

I like August, Ross and James from your current list.

AJ, enjoying life with C.

Thanks, guys. I'm worried Leo sounds foreign, not neccesarily Greek. Leo K@rvunidis might sound like he can't speak English, and people may not stop to wonder which language he CAN speak, KWIM?? I sound so ROTTEN for saying this stuff (think it in your head, Jenna!)

I used to be a recruiter and I remember some nasty habits floating around the office in regards to names. I think I've answered my own question here, haven't I?? HAHAH!!

We live in a very urban setting, which makes me a little sensitive.

Thanks!

i dont think Leo sounds too ethnic at all. What about Levi though? I think Ross and James sound the least 'ethnic' so if thats what you are looking for those would be my choices.

My order of preference would be:

Ross
Leo
Henry
James
August

Honestly I don't think any of them are all that ethnic-sounding.

And you don't want to give him a first name that's TOO bland - whenever I see a name like John Gnativovski (or whatever) I always think that the first name was just a throw-away name given to downplay the complicatedness of the last name...know what I mean? I don't think any of the options above are like that, but I could see how that might be an easy trap to fall into. Basically I think you should pick a name that's strong and unique and one that you really love, and not let your last name dictate TOO much.

Just my two cents :)

I really really love Leo, and I think it sounds just fine with the last name.
