Does "Maggie" need a full name?

DH and I are considering the name Maggie, but we aren't really crazy about Margaret. Do you think it's okay to just have the full name be Maggie? Or is there maybe another name who's nickname is Maggie?

Thanks!

Like you, I am not a fan of Margaret, but I like Maggie a lot. I strongly disagree, however, with posters who believe that naming a child something nicknamey, as opposed to a more formal name, is the way to go. With a more formal name, your child will have more options as she grows up. In your place, I would name a daughter Maegan, Magali, Margeaux, Margot, Magdalena, Margaretta, Marguerite, Magda or Magdalia, and call her Maggie to my heart's content. I might even give her a non-Mag first name and use Maggie (or Maegan, etc.) as her middle name. She could still be called Maggie; lots of people go by their middle names.
