I have all but decided that we will use the name Margaret Eliza (Eliza is my great-grandmother's name) with the nn Greta. But I don't like how Greta Eliza sounds, do you think this is a concern, or am I waaay overthinking this?

I guess that if she is going to go by Greta most of her life that she will at some point use her middle name with it. Your thoughts??

I don't think a middle name has to work with a nickname. Margaret Eliza sounds great and I love the nn Greta. When you are angry you are going to yell "MARGARET ELIZA get over here!", not Greta Eliza! I don't think she would ever use her nn except in formal situations and that is when she would use her full fn.

Very nice name.

Yep, I totally agree. If she uses her mn, it'll be in a more formal setting where she'll use her full first name, so it doesn't matter how the nn and mn sound together. I think the name you've chosen is great!

I agree with the previous posters. Middle names are only really used when the full formal first name is used (i.e. forms, applications, diplomas). As long as you don't intend on calling her by both names (i.e. some people might name their daughter Margaret Elizabeth or Cynthia Louise to get a Maggie Beth or Cindy Lou, or something), I think it's a total non-issue.

I really like the name Margaret Eliza, for what it's worth!

I don't think you should worry about it. In most cases where she would be using her middle name, she would be also using her full first name. I can't imagine an instance when she would be combining her nn with her mn, except for if people asked what her mn was and didn't know that Greta was short for something. I think the name Margaret Eliza is beautiful.
