Ok ill start out by saying my last name is johnson(feel safe saying that since half the world has the same last name, rofl). We're expecting a boy our second son...and dh came up with the name Gracin..which i like...but if you look at is with its usual spelling grayson...or even graysen..does that sound cheesy with our last name? middle name will be Alexander...which i think althogether flows nice but in school they just use first and last names. so it would be gracin johnson. Curious on what you ladies think...also any opinions on which spelling to use.

thanks
Shannon

Hi!

IMO, if you spell 'Gracin' like that, it looks too feminine. The traditional spelling of Grayson is much stronger and more masculine. It does sound a bit repetitive with your last name (either way you spell it, it still sounds the same) but not bad at all.

Good luck!

I agree with the other poster. Gracin is feminine, and an awful spelling as well.

Also, with Johnson you have to avoid a first name also ending in "son" It is just too much.

Hi Shannon,

Grayson's a nice name, but I agree that the rhyming with Johnson's a bit odd. The thing is, I don't think Gracin makes it any better, plus Gracin somehow seems much more feminine/girly- probably because it looks like Grace/Gracie, but I'm not sure. Maybe just Grey or Gray? Gray Alexander Johnson? Grey Johnson?

I'm a fan of unusual-but-traditional names, so these might seem completely weird, but I thought I'd share them anyways :)

Griffin/Gryffin Alexander Johnson

Griffith Alexander Johnson

Guy Alexander Johnson

Gage Alexander Johnson

Gareth Alexander Johnson

Garrett Alexander Johnson

Gordon Alexander Johnson

Graham Alexander Johnson

Gregor Alexander Johnson

Grieg Alexander Johnson

Gerard Alexander Johnson

Gavin Alexander Johnson

Geoffrey Alexander Johnson (Geoff Johnson...handsome!)

Godfrey Alexander Johnson

Gilbert Alexander Johnson (Gil Johnson...I like this too!)

Giles Alexander Johnson

You're lucky with a name like Johnson- barring the rhyming names, pretty much anything fits with it :)

I like Gracin a lot. It doesn't sound funny, but you could find a name that flows better with your last name (both end in the -in sound). I actually prefer Gracin over Grayson. I went on some websites and I couldn't find the meaning anywhere. Its a nice name though- I really like it. It has sort of a country feel to it. If you still are perfectly satisfied, here are some other names that fall under the same category, IMO, of Gracin:

Charlie
Gage
Abbott
Bade
Baird
Breckin ** this is my favourite- Breckin Alexander Johnson- it still ends in -in, but seems to flow better
Hal (Halden)
Heath
Anders
Mac
Maverick

My niece is called Maddison Jenkinson - the entire family snigger about it, lol, they were going to choose Skye but used it for the middle name instead. When she goes to school, well, the poor girl, that's all i can say. The beauty of a name is definitly in its rhythm, think about celebrities who change their name for this very reason.
(if it were a girl i would suggest Gracelyn!)
I personally think Gracin' looks like a slang appreviation for being graceful or 'gracing the ball' lol, or just 'greasy' comes to mind. I like unusual names, not this on. Grayson is better, but really doesn't go, please don't use it, he will throw it back at you. But if you love this name, i suggest Graysin, Grasyn, or Graisyn, etc.

I think it will sound good together. Though for a boy I'd use Grayson as the spelling.

Greyson Johnson doesn't sound wonderful, but at least Greyson is a cool name. However, please please please don't spell it Gracin. That looks super feminine & made up. Greyson Alexander Johnson maybe called Grey would be cool. Grey is sort of dashing, isn't it? Hope this helps!

I would not choose Gracin for two reasons...
1. I have seen a number of girls recently named Gracen (Grace with an n at the end, also spelled Grayson). If you don't mind unisex names, that is fine, but if it would bother you or DH to have a girl Gracen in his school, I would not choose the name.

2. I personally don't like first names and last names that rhyme GraCIN JohnSON. However, one of my colleagues has a son named Gray. I really like that name as an option. Gray Johnson. That sounds neat.

the spelling Gracin looks like a girls name, like a spin-off of the ultra-popular (to me almost sickeningly popular) Grace

Grayson or Greyson would be OK for a boy, but I personally wouldn't pair two son enders together - Grayson and Johnson - Grayson Johnson - no, it does not go together well.

and you're right Grayson Alexander Johnson, when you say all 3, does flow well because the two son's are so far apart - but that's not what he'll here when he's called on in school, when his name is announced for anything.

I don't recommend this, seriously.

i think the name is nice but plz woteva u do dont spell it gracin it luks too much like grace!!
your beter off calling him grayson even though if you seperate it up its grey - son !!! so thne it'd be better to go 4 greysen!!
if your worried about your last name johnson sounding a bit cheesey which no- offence does a little bit, then have his name as greysen-alexander, tht wud mean at skl in register his name wud be pronouced greysen-alexander johnson, then it wudnt sound cheesey nd u wudnt need a middle name because it wud b part ov his first name!!
let me kno wot u fink!!
