I've known both a boy and a girl with this name. I'm not sure if the girl's given name was Rory, or if it was a nn, but that's the name she went by in school...

As a given name, this is completely masculine. I do, however, like it as a nn for a girl (but ONLY a nn). Just like I wouldn't name a girl Sam or Charlie but obviously these are fine nns for Samantha or Charlotte, KWIM?

I agree with Kelli. I voted for either but I only like it as a nn for a girl.

To me it's a nn only. I think it makes a cute nn for Gregory and for Aurora. But it's too insignificant to stand on it's own.

This is a name I have loved for years but when I had my boys I didn't use it. I think after you say it a few time it is kind of a tongue twister. It is fine if you are reading it but saying it may be a different thing. I think it would work on either a boy or girl.

FWIW-- from a speech therapist....Rory is an INCREDIBLE difficult name to pronouce. R is one of the most commonly misarticulated sounds. To say a name with an inital and medial r is ALOT to ask out of a child....he/she isn't expected to "master" the r sound until around age 8!

I love the name Rowan but I didn't choose it because the most commonly substituted sound for the r is the w and I didn't want my daughter to be referred to as Wowan (by herself or any of her little friends).

Just wanted to give you a heads up. He/she may be called Wo-wie for quite awhile.
