Ok, I have to admit, I am from the south and have an affinity for both the use of family names and double names. I am trying to talk my husband into naming our next llittle girl: Anna Catherine and calling her Anna Catherine. My question is this: would Catherine have to be her middle name or is there a way to make Anna Catherine her first name legally? Do people ever hyphenate and then use another mn? Example: Anna-Catherine York + last name. I've always thought 4 names was too many in our culture (after all, I'm not royalty!) What does this mean for initials? Would her initials be ACP or ACYP (stupid!) or AYP? Last name is Precourt. General discussion encouraged.

I am from the South too, so Anna Catherine sounds lovely to me. I always had friends called by both their names. My name is Mary Katherine, but I have always been called Katherine. My sister is Anna Elizabeth, and called Anna. I always sort of wished I had been called Mary Katherine. I suppose for Anna Catherine York ? you would do AY? for the for straight across monograms and with monograms with with your last name in the middle
A?Y. Anna Kate is cute too, but I like either Anna, Catherine, or Anna Catherine MUCH better, for what it's worth. Good luck!

The funniest thing is that I'm not even Catholic! And I would never assume that a little baby is a nun, of course.

Good luck talking your husband into the name you love! That's always such a chore. Of course, I've found that sometimes if you don't mention it for a couple days and then bring it up again they all of a sudden LOVE the name, like it was their own idea or something. Or maybe I just have a loopy husband.

Can't wait to see what you decide!

I love the double name thing. My name is Mary Ellen. Just like that two words not one. And yes Ellen is my middle name. All of my legal documents say Mary Ellen as my name, as well as how I sign it for charts at work. I never found it confusing or too long as a child, and grew to love it later when I realized that yes there were 7 Jennifers in my graduating class from high school, but only one Mary Ellen. Also it is a family name of sorts, my Grandmothers were Mary Emily and Mary Elizabeth, so I am big on family names as well, it connects you to them even when they're gone. Good Luck!
