I was wondering if anyone could help me...

My 7 month old nephew was taken to the ER last night and they said he has the "Crupe" spell? We are supposed to go and see them for Easter this weekend. Is this something that can be spread to myself (32 wks pregnant) or my 3 yr old son? I really don't want to get sick. Thanks a bunch!

Yes! Croup is highly contagious for at least 5 days after onset of symptoms. My son had it last year & it was NOT fun. He ended up spending a night in the hospital. I wouldn't take any chances. Actually, his parents should keep him home. It is spread so easily just through coughing.....everyone that is there would be exposed!

Advice: do a google search on the croup, call your OB and your pediatrician.

My son just had croup in February. The doctor said it was contagious but one wouldn't get croup but a head cold. Lucky me caught the head cold and it was the worst head cold I've ever had. My son had cold symptoms for a week or more afterwards. I'd stay away if I were you. Regardless of any sickness that is contagious, I'd avoid it all together being pregnant.
