I'm all for middle names being tributes to family members or some other special person in your life, even a famous figure you admire.

I find names that are 2 syllables and have the accent on the 2nd syllable flow wonderfully.
Ex.:
Marie
Nicole
Chantal
Charlize
Leanne
Cheyanne
Celeste
Corinne
Camille
Noelle
Giselle
Brielle
Lorraine
Christine
Maxine

For boys, I find that Isaiah, Elijah, Nathaniel, and Josiah work really well as mn's for most fn.

Yeah, I think if we had to make general rules, it's probably shorter names (1 or 2 syllables) that end in a consonant sound, or at least not an "a," right?

I can't take credit for most of those ... here's a whole site on common/filler mns! ;)

http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/advice/middle.html

They also list alternatives to common mns (if you wanted to include your grandmother's mn, Ann, but don't want to use Ann ... things like that) and mn lists broken up by number of syllables, mns ending in "A" (and another list of mns that don't), etc., if anyone's interested.

The ones I hear most (in my generation - 30s) are Lynn, Michelle and Marie for girls.

AJ, enjoying life with C.
