Is Eliana too weird?

We are expecting our baby girl any day now (due August 5)... my favorite name is still Eliana (nn Ellie), but my husband is pretty unsure about it since it is so unique. It's #242 on the Soc. Sec. Dept's ranking of names... I love the meaning: "God has answered us." However, my husband's favorite is still Samantha (Sam), but I'm not as excited about that one. What are your thoughts?

Our older daughter is Alexandra and we call her Alex... we'd like it to blend with that, but it's not our number 1 criteria to have a perfect match with her name.

THANK YOU to all who replied to my previous question from a few days ago... SO helpful!

I like both names and I dont think Eliana is weird at all! Plus it does have a very nice meaning. I say keep both names as options and when you see her decide which is better.

I don't think Eliana is weird at all. Unique, somewhat (not completely because Ellie & Ana are not so unusual), but definitely not "weird".

I like both Eliana & Samantha & I think both would go w/ big sis' name. Eliana, to me, sounds a bit ethnic so I think I slightly prefer Samantha.

Oh my gosh, I think Eliana is beautiful. I am huge on meanings of names and that about brought tears to my eyes. I think Samantha is becoming pretty common and it is not really my style. Loving Eliana!

I agree with you b/c Samantha doesn't do much for me either. It's not bad, just not anything special. Eliana is a beautiful name, and I don't think it's weird. Has a Spanish feel, but that doesn't need to be a big deal. I agree w/ pp that it might be good to see which seems to "fit" your little one better after you see her and hold her for a few hours. Good luck with the delivery and the naming situation!!!

I don't consider it even a little bit weird. It's a nice name, very pretty and feminine, and it fits right in with names like Liliana/Lillianna, which are quite familiar. Samantha is also very nice, though. Why don't you keep both on your list and choose the one that seems to fit her better when she's born? Good luck!

Well I am biased. But I don't think Eliana is weird at all. In fact, I almost think the opposite. I know people say this all the time, but when I named DD Eliana, I had never heard it before and now I have met AT LEAST 3 other Eliana's.

I do think that Samantha might go better with your older DD's name (just from feel). But I don't think that really matters, I mean they won't always be together - in school and life. And I dont think that Alex and Ellie sound too similar.

good luck on making your decision.

Oh and Eliana has been rising on the SS chart. When I chose it, it was 319. It went up the next two years! (by quite a bit actually)

I think it's a gorgeous name, and I love the meaning. I think Samantha/Sam does go well with your DDs name, but I tend to think it's a bit 80s/90s sounding, and I think Elly would be a sweet nn.
