Hello,

My husband and I have liked the name "ELLA" for 2 years. Now that we are pregnant we would like to use it (We don't know what we are haing yet). But now I have heard several people using this name. Our 1st daughter's name is "Emily", that has become quite popular. I don't think I want to do that again. Is ELLA becoming too popular??

What do you think?

THANKS for your help.

I havent heard the actual name ELLA around, but there are many variations of it- Bella, Isabella..etc.

My name is Italian and uncommon here in the states (popular in italy) and normally everyone compliments me on it.. Its Antonella. Hope i helped :)

In the year 2002 it was # 94...in 2003 it was #44 so it really is on the rise.

Ella is more popular as a stand alone name. What about Ella as a nn? You could go with Eleanor(my sweet DD), Eloise, Elizabeth, -ella ending names Gabriella, Isabella. My Ella has met 2 "just" Ella's younger than her, she 7, but none older. I have never regretted naming her Eleanor. HTH!

Bummer! I love the name Ella too but I'm afraid that it is too popular. I've only heard it used as a nickname but everyone is using it as a nickname. I'd love to name a daughter either Elaine or Elanor (a family name for us) and nickname her Ella. I guess we will have to choose something else.

I know a few pregnant friends who are considering Ella, or something similar-sounding, like Stella or Isabella. It seems the "E" names, along with Emily and Emma, are very popular for baby girls these days!

Yes, I think that name has become very popular as has Emma and Grace, but I still adore the name!

I like ELLA. Im thinking about Isabella, and calling her Bella(italian meaning "beautiful)

If you look under the social security website http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ it will tell you how popular ELLA is.
