We decided to name our little boy Emil and my sister and her hubby have pointed out that its a horrible name because it sounds like E-mail. How would you read it? Emil with the E sound like in Egg or Emil with the E sound like in Emu?

I say it eh-MEEL. I think it's handsome!

I would pronounce it with a short e, like egg. I'm just not sure how I feel about this name. At first glance I hated it, but now I'm not quite so sure. Its original. I wouldn't confuse it with email.

Honestly, that would be a name that would say, "do you say it Emil (using egg sound) or Emil (using EE-mil sound)??? Are there any other ways to spell it, making it easier to pronounce it the way you and DH want it? Just a thought.

I would pronounce it eh-meel, kind of like the beginning of Amelia. I've never heard it before, but I like it (and would not accidentally call him email lol).

The name Emil takes me WAY back in time to my high school Driver's Ed teacher - Emil Beberdorph (now THERE is a last name you don't soon forget...).

When I first saw this name I thought it would be pronounced with an "e" like emu. I like the name it is quite original. I would agree with one of the previous posts and maybe look at adjusting the spelling so that people will pronounce it the way you and DH want it pronouced. And as with everyone else, I don't think there is a way to confuse it with email.
