Emma/Emily.....

My sister-n-law just had her baby 2 days ago and finally named her last night, after much debate between Mommy and Daddy! The name is Emma Jane. I personally LOVE it!!!
It does bring up a thought, there is already an Emily in the family. Is Emma too similar to Emily? I only wonder because Emma is a name that I loved but DH was afraid it was too close to Emily to use. WDYT?

Oh--they did not know what they were having, and they, like DH & I, do not discuss name thoughts with family members. We were afraid that we had the same "naming style" and we were correct! The other name they were thinking of using was Leah--one of my TOP choices for a girl!!! I couldn't believe it. Now I can't wait to ask them what their choices were for a boy to see how similar they are to the ones DH and I are tossing around.

They're pretty similar, but within a family it doesn't bother me. Both names have been in the top 10 for a while though, and I prefer to stay away from names that are extremely popular. As a fifth grade teacher I had three Brittanys in the same class last year. I imagine there are day cares filled with Emmas/Emilys right now.

In my family they would be too close. My brother's name is Emil and he thought Emma was too close to his name. Even though Emil is also DH's grandfather's name, too. One of DH's sisters middle name is Elizabeth and she didn't want us to pick any name that had Beth in it.

I personally think it's too close, especially since I would probably call both girls by Em or Emmy at some point. However, I know a set of sisters named Emily and Emma, and obviously, it didn't bother their parents at all.
