Is Ethan wimpy?

I've not had much luck budging my DH from Ethan to Alec (we have one boy-Jack). My worry on Ethan, aside from its popularity (though Jack is also uber-popular now - wasnt when I named him it) is is Ethan like a strong athletic masculine kind of name or is it bookish? Not to steer my kids into sterotypes, but I dont think any son of ours is going to avoid sports and I dont know what it is about Ethan that seems a little "delicate" to me. Maybe the "E"? Am I reading too much into it?

Popularity aside, this is the image of Ethan I have always had, honestly. Its popularity has come as a shock to me. I'm not sure that everyone has viewed it the way I do because the first two Ethans I became aware of had very outdoorsy/athletic parents. I was shocked...

Now that it is so popular, though, there will be Ethans of all walks of life. Interestingly, I DO find Ethan and Alec to be the same type of name, bringing forth the same type of first impression.

Best wishes, Ginger

I've always thought of Ethan as a bit of a wimpy name. I think it's because I went to high school with only one Ethan and he was a nerdy, wimpy guy-so that is the image I have in mind when I hear the name. But then again, there is Ethan Hawke who is a hot Ethan, although more of an intellectual than a jock. I love the name Alec but Ethan is nice too and getting very popular. It's just not really my style but still nice.
