I will give birth to my first child in 2 weeks, (I HOPE). Since I first
learned that he will be a boy, MY husband and I had agreed on the name.
SYNJIN ELIJAH!!!!! And we absolutely love the uniqueness of this name. As far as the
rest of our families.....they would prefer a more practicle name. I am not going to change my mind, but I would like to hear the opinions of the rest of the board. This
is my son and don't want him to hate me for naming him such a different name. I had a
unique name growing up and I got teased but I also believe it made me strong enough to take criticism well. Tell me what you think, please.

Are you trying to get him teased to build his character?
I really don't like the name at all. Definately not my style.

You sound like a tough girl who actually *wants* to hear some criticism, so I'm not going to spare you.
Between the fact that the boy's nickname will be "Sin" (phonetically) and that his name will rhyme with "Injun," I think it's pretty obvious why people react negatively.
And then there's the fact that source name, Sinjin (as in Smith, volleyball player), is nothing more than an illiterate way to spell a perfectly good name with the exact same pronunciation. St. John.
Look at St. John Elijah and think about it. It is the *exact* same name as Synjin Elijah. It is pronounced the same. Synjin is a misspelling of a misspelling of a name, and that name is St. John, just as unique and beautiful (because it is pronounced in exactly the same way), but less of the Dungeons and Dragons vibe.
The only place Synjin makes sense (in my ever-so-humble opinion, which I know sounds very harsh right now, but is something you seemed to genuinely want to hear) is on an online roleplaying game or a Star Wars convention, whereas St. John (same name but spelled correctly) could be a musician, a CEO, a revolutionary or anything else. Same exact name, a million more possibilities.
There's a point at which making up "creative" spellings just creates lifelong problems for the kid and lifelong doubt about your motives.
If you *must* throw a "y" where a "y" doesn't belong, try St. John Elyjah. Then, at least, he'll only hate his middle name.
I really don't like the first name at all. The spelling is very off too. It almost seems like a joke. Sorry!
