Expecting July 4! And girl name list
| Sat, 10-28-2006 - 4:00am |
Hi everybody,
I posted a few times a month or 2 ago while I was TTC and thinking through a list. Just found out we're expecting #2 July 4!! I wanted to show you my short list and get some feedback. dd is Elise Margaret.
Victoria (if we go with this nn will be, as I don't like vicky or tori)
Miriam
Miranda
Charloette
Ruby (July birthstone)
Auria
Anastasia
Rachel
Cecilia
Celeste
and Laurel
I'd love any feedback, good or bad, as well as any suggestions along these lines.
Thanks,
Jamie

Victoria - someday she may decide to use
Victoria - beautiful and classy
Miriam- love this and its not heard too often
Miranda- seems spunky to me, really like it
Charlotte- beautiful and soft
Ruby- love this, spunky
Auria- pretty, although I think I prefer some of the other more known names on your list
Anastasia- LOVE this, my fave... very uncommon
Rachel- nice and sweet
Cecilia- I prefer Cecelia, like that a lot
Celeste- Beutiful, flows well as a mn too
Laurel- Love this too
You have a GREAT list... honestly there is nothing I don't like. I guess it depends on what feels right to you...What mn will you be going with?
-Nikki
Victoria (I have met a few Victorias who don't use a nn - but remember, once they're in school you have no control over what they decide to go by - if you truly hate Vicky and Tori I wouldn't use it. It is such an elegant name, though. One of the few that is very girly and very strong)
Miriam (I love this name. I read a book where the main character turned me off of it, or it would be on my list too. Maybe it will reappear when the association wears off. In the meantime, don't read Bee Season :) )
Miranda (I really like this one too. It's a classic, but sounds contemporary and fresh)
Charloette Do you mean Charlotte?
Ruby (July birthstone) I like this - it's spunky. Again, it was on our list until it was the name of my son's preschool teacher this year. She's great, but it would be weird for him...anyway this is a fantastic name)
Auria - it looks pretty written, but seems awkward to say somehow
Anastasia - I LOVE this name
Rachel - I love this, it's a classic, but it is also going to be perpetually popular. If this doesn't bug you, go for it.
Cecilia - I always want to like this name (and you have to love the Simon and Garfunkel song) but I never really warm to it like I wish I did.
Celeste - this seems a little school-marmish to me for some reason.
and Laurel - Laurel is beautiful. It's a classic, it has nature ties, and it's beautiful to say. There aren't so many Lauras and Laurens to confuse it with now either.
My favorites:
Miranda
Ruby
Anastasia
Laurel
Good luck :)
Hi Jamie -
Congrats!! Here are some combos from your picks:

For a sister to Elise Margaret ...
Victoria (if we go with this nn will be, as I don't like vicky or tori) -- I'm not sure if you meant to put a nn in that sentence?? Vivi, Vita, Tia, Cora, Rory? I do like this name, but I slightly prefer Vivian with Elise. It's obviously similar, but just a bit softer, like Elise.
Miriam -- like it a lot
Miranda -- not usually my style, but it works pretty well
Charloette -- I'm sure this is Charlotte. ;) It's getting popular, but it's still a beautiful name. The similar sounds of Charlotte and Margaret would bother me slightly, but since Margaret is a mn it wouldn't be too obvious.
Ruby (July birthstone) -- I love this. It has a slightly spunkier feel than Elise, but it still works. Might also work well as a mn for you.
Auria -- I also prefer Aurora or Aurelia.
Anastasia -- I actually don't like this with Elise. Elise is short, soft and simple, while Anastasia is long and frilly. I actually love the name, but it has a very different feel to me, KWIM?
Rachel -- I like it, but not as much as some of your other choices
Cecilia -- absolutely love it
Celeste -- Elise and Celeste have too many similar sounds, IMO. Both two syllables with El- and Cel- beginnings and -ise and -este endings. I think you'd be in for some tongue twisters with these as sisters -- Eleste, Celise, etc. LOL
and Laurel -- love this as well. Elise and Laurel are a lovely set. ;)

My fav's for baby sister to Elise:
1. Claire (have you considered this?)
2. Miranda
3. Victoria
I think Claire is just about perfect with sister Elise (both polished, simple, pretty). Miranda has that unexpected, pretty quality Elise has and Victoria has the sophisticated, traditional quality. Elise is a French name so I'm including a list of names from my husband's family tree (he's French). You may like some of them:
Eva
Sophie (cute with sister Elise)
Virginie (pron Veer-zhen-ee)
Emelie
Anne (also perfect with sister Elise)
Charlotte
Madeleine
Seraphine
Anastasie
Felicite
Adeline
Aime
Victoire
Evangeline
Germaine
Angelique
Juliette (pretty with sister Elise)
Corinne
Cecile (also pretty with sister Elise)
Isabelle
Celina
Helena
Lillian
Brigitte
Emilien
Laure
I did some typos in my original message. Here's what I meant to say...
Victoria (if we go with this nn will probably be tira (pr. teera), as I don't like vicky or tori)
Miriam
Miranda
Charlotte
Ruby (July birthstone)
Auria
Anastasia
Rachel
Cecilia
Celeste
and Laurel
I'd love any feedback, good or bad, as well as any suggestions along these lines.
Thanks,
Jamie
