Hi there, Liz. Great lists! Here are my thoughts:

Boys:

Malcolm -That's really handsome. I don't see any reason why this name would get made fun of. It's handsome & different, but still reconizable.

Edwin-I like this, & the nn Eddie is cute. Ed is nms though, & he might get called that wheather you like or not.

Calvin-This is darling, & I just love the nn Cal. It has a great image.

Oliver-That's really nice.

Ah, I like them all. Calvin is probably my favourite, but Oliver is a close second. Here are a few more suggestions that you might like-

Arthur

Girls:

Elizabeth (nn Lily)-I love it!

Lila-I love this too! It's definitly less common than Elizabeth/Lily if that's an issue for you.

Eleanor (nn Nell or Nora)-I can never see the appeal of Eleanor, sorry. It's a good, solid, & clasic name, but nms. I do like Nora though. Why not just Nora? Or maybe Eleanora nn Nora?

Holly-That's pretty cute.

Claire-That's nice, but it's not my favourite.

Amelia (what are good nns? Love Mia but doesn't sound great with last name)-I love this. Mia is beautiful. What about Lia? Or Millie?

Here are some girl suggestions that you might like-

For boys, Malcolm and Edwin seem a bit geeky to me, but I love Calvin and Oliver. Calvin is my favourite.
As for girls, I love all the names! They are so pretty! What nice choices. Lily is so popular right now, so I would go with Eleanor nn Nora or Claire.

Boys:

Malcolm: It's okay, it's nms, but I think it sounds strong.

Edwin: Strong manly name, but I think of an uptight man, not a little boy. Sounds old to me.

Calvin: Nice, I like the nn Cal.

Oliver: LOVE it! My favorite by far on your list. I love the nn Ollie too. I get good vibes from this name. :D~

Girls:

Elizabeth (nn Lily): classic name, beautiful. Love the nn Lily for it.

Lila: Also another beauty, although I prefer Elizabeth/Lily to it.

Eleanor (nn Nell or Nora): I like Nora, but Eleanor is nms. I think of an old lady, even though this name seems to be a fovorite on this board.

Holly: Simple & pretty. Not heard often.

Claire: another classic. Understated, beautiful name. Couldn't go wrong with this one either.

Amelia: I love this one. I think it is my favorite from your list of girl names. It's fresh & pretty. I like the nns Mia, Lia, Amy or Ami, Millie & Mel for this name. Any of those jump out at you?

From your list:

Boys:
Malcolm - I don't really care for this name
Edwin - This is nice, although as a young boy I think I'd go with "Eddie"
Calvin - I really like this.
Oliver - Very cute and different.

Girls:
Elizabeth (nn Lily) - Cute, although Lily got knocked off my list b/c it's quite popular. I wasn't aware that Lily was a nn for Elizabeth... is it?!
Lila - Cute - like it better than Lily
Eleanor (nn Nell or Nora) - I like Eleanor; don't like nn Nell, though Nora is cute or Elle
Holly - don't care for it - too seasonal!
Claire - Love it.
Amelia - Love it... would like it best with no nn! Ummm.... how about lia (Leah)?

You have some very nice choices!

Boys:

Malcolm - This is alright, but it reminds me of the nerdy kid on Malcolm in the Middle.
Edwin - Not crazy about it. The nick name Eddie is cute but that will only last him so long, I dont like Ed.
Calvin - Very cute. Good nick name potential. Adorable for a boy, strong for a man.
Oliver - This seems to be getting very popular, although I think it is a very handsome name.

Girls:

Elizabeth (nn Lily)- Very cute. Lily is a nn I've never heard with Elizabeth before but it works well. I also love the nn Libby.
Lila - ADORE this name, feminine and spunky all at once!! Probably up there on my list of favorites. I like the spelling Lyla a little better, just because it makes pronunciation a bit more clear, thats just me though.
Eleanor (nn Nell or Nora) - This name could grow on me. I'd prefer the nick name Nell over Nora.
Holly - Very christmas-y.
Claire - Very pretty. I like the less common Clara.
Amelia (what are good nns? Love Mia but doesn't sound great with last name)- Another one of my all time favorites! We want to name one of our girls Amelia with the nick name Millie (family name). Other nick names could be Lia or Amy.

Hope that helps!

Boys:

Malcolm - I'm not too fond of this. This may be weird, but I tend to avoid any names with "mal" in them, because I took 5 years of French, so to me "mal" means "bad."
Edwin - OK, all I can think of is the time my mom received a stuffed polar bear for Christmas and promptly named it Edwina! ROFL. Edwin seems a bit old and stuffy to me, as the PPs said.
Calvin - Cute. I absolutely love the NN Cal. There are definitely Calvin and Hobbes associations here, but to me, that's not a bad thing at all.
Oliver - Adorable, but getting so popular (as is the female version, Olivia.)

Girls:

Elizabeth (nn Lily) - Timeless and pretty, though it is always very high in popularity. I love Lily as the NN, though that is also very popular on its own -- for good reason, though, IMO.
Lila - Gorgeous!
Eleanor (nn Nell or Nora) - Eleanor has just never appealed to me. I just don't think it looks or sounds very pretty.
Holly - Not nearly as nice as your other choices. It seems very dated to me.
Claire - Beautiful and classic.
Amelia (what are good nns? Love Mia but doesn't sound great with last name) - Seems to be getting popular, at least on the boards, lol. It doesn't really appeal to me, but I do like it better than Eleanor! NNs Amy, Lia, Meli/Millie. Have you considered Amalia, NN Molly? (oops, there's that "mal" again!)

My top picks: Calvin and Lila! Lila Elizabeth or Lila Claire would be great combos, as would Amelia Claire and Elizabeth Claire.

HTH!
