Feelings on an initial nn for a boy?

Dh and I have been through it trying to find a boy's name we both like! You've probably seen my posts here with a wide variety of ideas, lol (everything from Wyatt to Rudy to River to Ezra and more!). DH said something the other day about using initials as a nn and at about the same time we both agreed that we like Ethan as a first name. I don't think either of us LOVES it, but it appears that's not something that's going to happen, KWIM?

A name that I personally love, love, love is Jack; so I asked dh today if he'd be okay with Ethan Jack. He was noncommittal, but didn't outright say no. Then I said "What if we called him E.J.?" and he got a little more interested. I told him if we used that name I'd never be able to bother him about Jack again (this is baby #7 and I've liked Jack since baby #2!) -- "It's a win-win" I said, and he laughed. I might be able to get away with calling the baby Jack as a pet name from time to time (we have a daughter whose mn is Isabelle and I call her Bella quite a bit, but am the only one that does).

Anyway, I'm not totally in love with Ethan or E.J., but I don't NOT like them either. And I think I could go with them with my beloved "Jack" thrown in there.

What are *your* thoughts on initial nicknames?

I had a little boy in my preschool class that we called EJ - short for Elijah James. It seemed to be find...

Names to go w/ Jack as a mn:

I like the nn E.J. In fact, my SIL and BIL just had and Evan John and I was really hoping they'd call him that.

It's funny you should mention Elijah -- I was laying in bed this a.m. and I remembered that Eli or Elijah is another "E" name dh and I both kind of liked (Ezra too). I like Eli or Elijah better than Ethan myself, but dh stayed up until midnight with the kids so he's still in bed sleeping (I haven't asked his opinion yet). I do like Elijah Jack, I believe!

I really like initial nn! They make me curious as to what it's for!

I think E.J. is great. (I have a Jack, BTW, named for my dad.) Long story, but DH didn't want to use Jack as the nn (his legal name is John). But I kept calling him that and you can see who won! LOL
