i have a daughter named Holland full name Sara Holland but she goes by Holland..... both of those are family names. I'm expecting #2 and ideally I would love to use Georgia which would honor my dad. My only reservation is that then i would have daughters w/ 2 place names. Is that silly???. Do you think of Georgia as a place name right off the bat or do you see it more as an old fashioned girl name first. I know Virginia is a place name but I see it as more of a name than a place. When i think of Holland i think more placey than Georgia so I'm hoping it might work? What do you think?

Secondly if I used Georgia to honor my dad I would also like to use my father in laws name Ray as a mn which do you prefer
Georgia Ray or Georgia Rayne (pron. Rain)

I don't always think of Georgia as a place name, but I would if it were paired with Holland or another place name. Basically, I would already be thinking "place name" after hearing your older DD's name, so identifying Georgia as a place name would just come naturally. I wouldn't choose a second place name because of this.

Georgia Ray would get my vote over Georgia Rayne. Georgia Rayne sounds like a storm over Georgia to me--I think it emphasizes the place name thing, too. Georgia Ray sounds a little sunnier, imo.

I like Rayne but I agree that combined with a place name, it doesn't work.

I like the sound of Georgia Ray - and a great meaning behind it for your family. Me personally, I Love Georgia, it tinkers between #1 and #3 on my list. I haven't had a baby in almost 5 years, and my last one was going to have that name if I had a girl.

I think of it as an old fashion southern name. I think that people who aren't wild about the name, first think of the place. It sounds like you really like it though, so I would keep it. It definitely goes well with your DD's name. Are you planning to have more children? Maybe consider that, and then would you still choose a place name to have all of them match?

I am not really bothered by two place named. I'm sure there are siblings out there named Dakota and Cheyenne, or Savannah and London, etc. Anyway, Georgia Rayne DOES make me think of the place, because it's like "I stood out in the warm Georgia rain" - I like Ray better but I like it spelled Rae for a girl.

Georgia Rae? What do you think?

I prefer Georgia Ray.

There is a country song called "Georgia Rain" by Trisha Yearwood. Good song!
